Why is Shafayat replacing Swann? Go for the attacking option with Pattison. Sorry, but Billy is not going to score many runs in the first division, and he's failed here.

I'm inclined to agree - though I'll reserve judgment until he's batted in the second innings. Swann's become a pretty important member of the team, which I think shows how much he's progressed. When he arrived at Notts from Northants there were a few question marks over him.

We've got a batting point (something quite unusual today) but this has been a pretty poor display from Notts, and it'll be a surprise if we get many runs from the Sidebottom Shreck partnership.

The Notts top order batsmen have pretty much failed again, though it's encouraging to see Wood making a score. Jefferson's had a very disappointing start to the season, and you have to wonder if Hales will get a chance to show what he can do. Shafayat's just failed again. Top marks to Kent for putting us in a nasty spot, but it does seem our batsmen have underperformed this match even if the conditions have mostly been quite nice for the bowlers.

For such a nominally good side you lot don't half collapse in a heap sometimes. Close of play on day 1 and all the money in the world is on Notts.

Notts managed not to collapse in a heap chasing a mammoth 145 to beat Lancs. Voges made a decent score at last, and Wagh was his dependable self.

I came across Wagh's blog today - interesting stuff, much better than Will Smith's used to be, and more thoughtful than Swann's.

So, would you bring in Shafayat for Jefferson, or try young Alex Hales, or perhaps bring in both and drop Wood too? Any other suggestions? I'd rather not move Wagh from number 3.

I'm not sure. I'd rather play with 9 men than with Jefferson and Wood.

Why are we signing legions of fast bowlers when it's our batting that's hopelessly inept?

Alex Hales plundered about 70 off no more than about 25 balls against my club in a midweek twenty over game a couple of years ago. We really should have got the opposition chucked out of the competition for that...

The other thing about the signing of Andre Adams is who will miss out? I suspect it will be Vice-Captain Paul Franks. Your list of seamers includes:

Sidebottom
Shreck
Broad
Pattison
Adams
Ealham
Franks
Harris
Clough
Fletcher
Footitt

Fletcher and Footitt are only youngsters but how are Notts going to keep the others happy? I can't help but feel they would be better served losing a couple (Harris and Clough) and signing a couple of decent opening batsmen instead!

As for Jefferson and Wood perhaps the answer is to drop the pair and give Hales and Shafayat a chance. The other option is to move Wagh up from 3.

I know. AJ is in his benefit year and is going to struggle to get a game for the seconds!

Getting any decent batsman would be good. Wagh may as well open because he always comes in after about 2 balls anyway.

I'd rather suffer than see us sign a second Kolpak though. I'm really not happy about the Adams signing, I don't think he'll give much more than Franks, Pattison or Shreck, while Footitt and Fletcher are showing a lot of promise.

Perhaps we can go for a quadruple of beating Warwicks for players and try and nick David Sales in the winter? I bet Northants are urging to replace him with some 34 year old Saffer averaging 33.7 anyway.

but are your openers as bad as this man:

http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/south...yer/45210.html

possibly the worst opener i have ever saw and him and Stubbo were probably the dullest pair ever but least Stubbo ggets away with it for being a legend!

Hales and Shafayat in for Jefferson and Wood. Let's hope they can perform.

I'm very unhappy you didn't beat Leicestershite. Events conspired against you really, but at least you're through...

Shafayat's unbeaten 8 from 27 balls must have pleased you greatly
