News from God's Own County (TM) (aka Yorkshire)

BBC seems to think Moxon will be back along with Gough? But as what? Will we get Donald after all?

Gough is an interesting choice of captain isn't he? He says he can still bat and bowl, which seems a little self aggrandising to begin with but even he doesn't try to pretend he can field. Whether he'll be fit enough to play a major role remains to be seen. He's been paid an awful lot if he isn't fit for the whole season.

Some of my concerns over Gough have been assuaged a little....or perhaps the boundless optimism shown by many Yorks supporters on another site is rubbing off on me. Anyway, for the thousandth time this winter, the team that will probably (or rather, probably won't) face Surrey on April 18th is:

Sayers
White
Elliott
Rudolph
Wood/Gale/McGrath
Rashid
Brophy
Bresnan
Gough (c)
Gillespie
Hoggard

I can't say that side would fill me with fear were I a Surrey fan. The batting looks short to me. The attack isn't bad, mind, especially if Rashid has a useful season.

The middle order looks a bit empty without Mags, but Bresnan, Gough and Gillespie are more than capable of sticking around, a la Chapple, Cork and Hogg at Lancs. The bowling will depend on which Dizzy decides to turn up

And it looks like we've got our coach too. Juat a couple of pieces left in the jigsaw

I don't blame you. There's been so much coming out of Yorkshire this winter, it's damn hard to keep up.

I have to say I'm happy with this move. Always rated Moxon as a coach.

Interesting that he had a falling out over money originally. That one must have been smothed over.

Blimey - are things going right?

The top order is now looking moderately solid.

White, (I imagine we'll go for Wood over Sayers, but that's no guarantee), Elliott (replaced by Younus), Rudolph, McGrath, (probably) Rashid, (I think they'll go for Guy over Brophy initially), Bresnan, Gillespie, Gough, Kruis.

I'd prefer it if we could play this team, however:

Sayers, White, Younus, Rudolph, McGrath, Lyth, Wood (wk), Bresnan, Gillespie, Lawson and then either Gough if he's fit, and most likely Kruis.

And the reason I'd not go for Rashid - it's likely his bowling will be found out this year (viz. Jon R Theory of Young Legspinners: Season 2 - The difficult patch) and Lawson had this problem early last year, but he's worked and worked on hitting the right spots. Besides, I want to see at least one young batsman, bowler and spinner in the side!

We've missed a trick you know. Some badlad should taken over Headingly and then we should have upped sicks elsewhere , thus bringing the team together.

Seems my mother was right, she said Mcgrath was staying on Wednesday.

So Jacques-Yourbody could get himself some valuable experience of English conditions?
