Is Guy a part time coach at the Academy?

Kieswetter -
Whilst I was up at the academy I spent a lot of my time working with Bruce French (Nottinghamshire and England) and Simon Guy from Yorkshire."

I hadn't heard of anything. I know he works with our young keepers, and is effectively the second XI captain; but I haven't seen tell of any coaching levels etc. Don't think he's that great a keeper anyway, and there's nothing he'll want to pass on about his batting

Still around and still appalled by the ease with which overseas players can come to this country and opt to play for England. It isn't just cricket either.

Did anyone notice that Mike Catt was the only England rugby player not to sing his heart out during the national anthem before the world cup final. Being yet another South African he obviously never bothered to learn the words...

Nor did Jonny Wilkinssssson, the blonde Icelandic number 10 - and Gary Neville never sings the national anthem either. Then again, he is a scabby Manc.

He's actually from Bury not Manchester!

And a staunch republican, which is why he doesn't sing the national anthem.

You can just imagine him in the old Cromwell garb can't you! I'm a bit surprised growing up on the tough streets of Bury he didn't accidentally get huzzed on a bonfire around this time of year!

At least KP bellows our national anthem with gusto prior to settling down with his generic-girl-band-wifey's lovingly prepared Iceland Chrimble dinner. Maybe Mike Catt is a staunch publican as well?

Our national anthem is dire, and what is more it has absolutely no relevance or meaning to me. I don't believe in god and I'm a republican. The German national anthem means more to me.

Jonny always sings it and I have just checked the recording so yah boo suck on that one.

And Gary Neville is a footballer and very few of the England football team have the good grace to sing the national anthem - 'cos they are footballers.

Even if he sang there - Jonny certainly wasn't singing for the semi 'gainst France. And, if memory serves - the last time I saw him line up, which was for the final against Australia in 03, he didn't sing for that game either. It doesn't bother me, you know - Personally speaking I generally don't sing the National Anthem, because I don't hold with that sort of thing/ find it boring/ disagree with the sentiment/ prefer to keep my powder dry for the karaoke later. If it was 'Otherside' by RHCP I could belt that out with the best of 'em - it's just why should ex-Safricans always get your bile poured on 'em?

Over several years of posts I am surprised that you need to ask this.

He wasn't a success in test cricket for South Africa, which is why he ended up here as a Kolpac. I doubt if England would pick him.

Yorkshire move to help young Lewis Edmundson
Friday, 9th November 2007
The Club have been made aware of the plight of 9-year-old Lewis Edmundson who suffers from neurofibromatosis type II. It is such a rare condition that Lewis is the only UK sufferer. He urgently requires treatment to prevent or shrink the tumours that threaten his life.

Lewis' family have been desperately trying to raise money to help Lewis and have been helped by many people, but have been dramatically let down by celebrities and donators who had pledged support and money only to disappear when it really mattered.

Lewis Edmundsen and his family are friends of James Hogg, Yorkshire's Commercial Manager. The Commercial team at the Club want to step in and help them make Lewis' life so much better!

To get more information on Lewis Edmundson please visit his website

What we are doing

James Hogg, not the quietest of individuals, is performing a 24-hour sponsored silence on 30th November. He's going to find that so hard!

We are adding some very special items to the YCCC Auction site - specifically donated to assist Lewis reach his target of 6,500 - check out YCCC Auctions over the next few days for some rare items of memorabilia.

We need your help!

If you would like to make a donation please send a cheque made payable to the Lewis Edmundson Appeal to:

The fixtures are out ... and it shows that Yorks are trying to kill off Scarborough. The 2 games are on consectutive weeks right in the middle of the school holidays.

WEDNESDAY 27 AUGUST KENT SCARBOROUGH

WEDNESDAY 3 SEPTEMBER SUSSEX SCARBOROUGH

whilst the corresponding Pro 40 games are shown as

MONDAY 25 AUGUST KENT SCARBOROUGH

WEDNESDAY 31 AUGUST GLAMORGAN SCARBOROUGH

My guess is that the 2nd game is on SUNDAY 31st

It basically means that those of us who wist to see both games will have to spend 2 weeks in Scarborough with 3 definite 'dead days (Tue 26th Aug & Mon/Tue 1st/2nd Sept)

The club is just taking the p***

At least you've still got 10 days of festival cricket. Just the one day at Bath again in 2008. Scarborough and Cheltenham must be the only festivals that last more than 5 days now, which is a real shame.
The 'dead days' inbetween games is always a bit of a balancing act I guess - Cheltenham only has the one 'dead day' halfway through, which is great for supporters but must make for a tiring fortnight for the players. And surely that second week of Scarborough is when the kids go back to school (it certainly is down here)?
