Can someone assure me we haven't entered an alternate reality.Iin 2009 we couldn't bowl anyone out. We get rid of our highest wicket taker (Hoggy) ... lose out best 2 bowlers to England & have Adil out of sorts due to being messed around by England .... then win by bowling teams out.

Today Brophy did very well with the bat .. but we only poosted a decent score becuase of big hitting in the later overs. Derby started well .. but after losing a few wickets got behind the Vera Duckworth par score ..... so they took the batting power play 'early' .. in the 28th over. Pyrah got a wicket .... then Patterson got 3 in 29th & 2 in the 31st ... the final lbw looked a bit 'dodgy' (like the umpire wanted to go home) ... but the others were fine

It is fantastic isn't it DP ?
I guess we'll just have to get over the shock and buckle down to the task of patronising the other fans - like we used to do 40 years ago.
Maybe we should see if we can get some lessons from someone who remembers the sixties/fifties etc and can teach us how to best address these issues.
Maybe Illy will hold a seminar in Spain?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Illy left th ground at 'half time' yesterday ... or rather a car with the number plate 1LLY did

Even when we've been cr*p Yorkshire members have patronised many other counties fans ... due to us taking over their ground at away Championship games

An entertaining ... but slightly disapointing day. Yes we won ... & in the past may have lost the game ... but as has been said we should have won more easily. The pitch was a bit 'dead' & our batsmen just couldn't adjust to the lack of pace ... as has been said Joe Sayers did a good job .. & did appear to be a long way down when given out LBW. After a rapid start Rudolph became the anchor ... I'd love to find out how many times Jacques got a single off the first ball of the over. Holland also swapped theit bowlers around regularly .. someone would bowl one over fron one end then the next but one over from the other end ... one or two also had slighty 'dodgy' actions

In the Dutch innings things weren't brilliant Dighton was in .. he looked a good bat until Tino beat him for pace ... then we pegged them back rather well until Bukhari came in ... he battered the bowling for 49 in 40 balls, they should stick him further up the order. Its interesting that whilst Rashid has the lower run rate he didn't appear to be bowling well to us.

Just to reiterate .. it always looked like we would win ... but there was the fear that 2 or 3 silly shots could put us in big trouble

btw Holland again increased their score in the interval. The scoreboard missed a no ball in Sanderson's first over ... don't ask me why as it was a front foot one with the following free hit .... so for most of the Holland innings the scoreboard was 2 runs 'light' .. thankfully these appeared in the interval .... I'm gald 'our' scoreer was with us today.

The stewarding is getting a bit heavy. There was a stag party on hthe Western stand. We were laughing at the 9 High Viz jacketed stewards & 3 suited security staff behind them (Yes we counted) preparing for the pitch invasion a the end of the match ... that of course never happened ... there were probably only about 10 people in the stag do party in the first place.

Oh yes ... I had my bag searched for the first time this season today by one of the be-suited security staff..... that's after I entrered via the members entrance after leaving my bag round the side as its too big & heavy to go trhough the turnstyle and the 'normal' staff are used to membetrs doing thiis

Good to see Ballance get a game, even if he only hit a tawdry four runs. That's what I like about Martyn Moxon, he brings balance to the side.

My only objection to CB's post is that he beat me to the awful pun

I think its an England question DP - Anderson presumably is selected for the first test match next week and has been parked on his backside for the last god knows - the selectors will be insisting he has some meaningful cricket.
It will be ironic if he pulls something and AJ - who must be the next cab off the rank - is required.

I'm not so sure that AJ is the next cab on the rank. I suspect his is behind one RJ Sidebottom.

Who is a big name when it comes to bowlers in Twenty20 anyway? If he's effective, he should be a good signing.

Good one Dt ... but I thought the idea of allowing teams to have to overseas players in the 20/20 was to get 'big names' to bring the crowds in rather than someone who could do a job

Yes, you've said that twice now. Who would you have wanted us to sign?

Havent a lot of the "big names" been signed at great expense (Kent were offered a player at 12,000 a week) in anticipation of possible Champions League riches? Now theres no possible champions league, sights are being set at a more realistic level.

I kind of see where Dp's coming from. He's saying if we cant hire a Symonds a Tait or a similar world class proven match winner - who might conceivably double the gate - then why bother?
I have some sympathy with that view.

Half the Yorkshire fans were bricking it when Bres and Shaza went to Windies that our bowling resources were really ''paper thin'' - what actually happened is that we saw we had the class in depth to cover this.
Nothing could have been further from the truth. Hindsight - wonderful.
So why pay a 'specialist' player - who has very little English experience - but a few T20 caps - Now I hear everyone shouting ''he's an international player'' - trouble is that as we ''go forward'' in the game, as it is played in this era, international caps will end up like hemorrhoids - after a while every a-hole will get one.

So I declare myself neutral on this one. No problem with this guy - less so than Gibbs - who really 'has been' -I think he's (Clint's) pretty much a modern T20 cricketer so maybe a brief exposure to him will be of some limited benefit to our young players.
We do need to role model some of these 'impact' all rounders in this country ......wait a minute .....who are the best T20 team in the world again......................................? Maybe he might learn something from us.
