bowled well again today 2/40 coming on as third change. Mind it could be worse - he could be David Wainwright....

7-107 & that's his best figures in first class cricket.

Improving on 6/67 which he took against Warwickshire on his debut.

A good effort from the young lad. It's a shame that his batting appears to have fallen to pieces. I wonder if he'll be boarding the plane to India this winter?

I'd be tempted to take him... I'd say he's probably got to get a few more 4 or 5 wicket hauls to be really considered though. I don't want to ruin him. I suppose it will also depend on how much of Samit's bowling we see in the upcoming ODI series and how much faith is placed in Swann.

I don't think either should be considered for test selection.

Yes, as for the last age, England can't really muster more than one remotely test class spinner.

If they are only planning to play one spinner in the tests then I'd take Monty and Rashid. I can't really think of any other sensible candidates.

He bowled absolute dross today.

Would still take him to India though, Swann will never be a test match spinner.

The India tour this year would seem an obvious one to take him on for the experience of what it is like with the senior team. I'm certain he's not ready to be the only spinner for England just yet. Another year or so and Monty may start to get worried!

Neither his batting or bowling has been that good this season, i don't see what the hype is all about tbh.

35 wickets - in a wet summer. Playing at Headingley.

Leading spinner in Div one by a mile. Swann,of England possibles, next with 23.

9th highest wicket taker overall.

Seems pretty good for a kid to me.

Some signs of improvement in his bowling this season, I agree but his batting, which looked pretty close to being his stronger suit last season has been less impressive this time. Still, he's a very promising player, just nowhere near test selection ahead of or even with Panesar as yet or at least he wouldn't be if there were any decent alternatives.

If he's nowhere near Test selection he shouldn't/won't be going to India.

Name a better or more promising spinner that we could take along with Monty? If we go for a second spinner then there is no harm in taking him along and seeing if he impresses.

Didn't they take Alex Loudon and Ian Blackwell last time?
