Agreed. Which is even more stark in light of walkgate last time and the Aussie outrage.

England have overachieved this morning to get to this score. Well done Moeen and Stuey. Wish the last pair had tried to hang around a while longer and frustrate the Aussies, but the bowlers will be keen to get after them.

Bit harsh. He's a better batsman if he attacks and the reason that partnership was so successful was that both were riding their luck. If he'd middled it it would have been a good shot. I think the execution rather than the shot selection was the problem. Not as much need to play for the batsman at the other end when he looks at least as likely to get out as you do.

Sort of, although I don't think they were actually serious about that. Most of it was press froth. Boof made himself look very stupid, mind.

I was going to put "faux" in, but they seemed to take it pretty seriously, spitting in the face of irony.

Broad convinced his captain to review that one. Now, that might have been closer but if Broad had his way Eng would have lost both reviews in the 2nd over.

Didn't think he actually wanted to review the first one. Second looked a good shout.

Shouldn't have even been discussing it, pitched a mile outside leg...

Butler going up there shows how desperate England are for a wicket. Not because they fear the quality of the Aussie batting line-up, but they know this is a new ball wicket. Broad bowling real well though.

Broad was on the verge of a wicket, why take him off?

After just 3 overs? Odd. Change of ends?

No. Cook chucked the ball to Woods for the final over of the session instead of Broad. Broad almost had Warner's wicket on the last ball of the 6th over, and for the final over before lunch, Cook instead chucks the ball to Wood who then bowls one of the most unthreatening overs we've seen this innings.

Sorry, second-last over. Not final over.

Forgot about lunch. That is poor then.

I was just about to say he'd be better off seeing if Moeen can buy a wicket if it's the last over

Didn't he go through a phase, if not still, of wanting to review every time he was out? (except of course the time he didn't walk and the opponents had no reviews left)

Good knock from Ali, I'd be tempted to dump Bell and move Ali up the order with Rashid coming in down the order. Might not strengthen the line-up on paper, but since Bell is a walking wicket then it won't be a big loss of runs.
