In terms of volume of runs but tres played a breathtaking innings in front of fletcher when he was glammy coach.

Exactly. It's not all down to weight of stats but the quality (or potential quality) of a player.

See also SP Jones, RGD Willis, DI Gower and a good few others.

Hopefully it will have the same impact.
Not sure about CDogg but I certainly did. But he eventually came good.

(This was one of the things that has puzzled me when the pundits talk about him - even at the beginning of his ODI career they were applauding his outstanding ODI cricket when it was rubbish, and when he came into the tests they still go on about his outstanding one-day cricket being the reason he was picked for test cricket, to bring a bit more urgency to the top order. His test debut came after 23 ODI innings which included 2 x 50s and one century - the one century being his antepenultimate innings before playing his first test).

I believe he is worth persevering with.
Not sure there's much currency in optimistic comparisons between English players and aussies.........

Hales has done well in his last 11 innings, but he needs to continue that form as 11 innings could just be a purple patch.

And who knows how much playing Tests and being a fish out of water will affect him, psychologically as well as other factors including sides seeing more of him and being able to scheme ways to get out.

Isn't the shorter format of the game where Hales made his name? So I hope he opens the batting for us in the 1st ODI

Certainly not much in comparing him to Waugh! I really wanted to highlight the absurdity of judging a relatively inexperienced player on statistics. I see growth, significant contributions and potential - others believe he is not international class, which is fine. Both opinions are valid and cricket is a game based on judgement - statistics taken from a relatively small sample prove little. Is Adam Voges really the 2nd best batsman of all time?

He cracked ODIs just after having a poor time opening the batting in South Africa in the tests. It's highly likely just coincidence but it's certainly a pretty powerful argument against his test struggles undermining his ODI batting.

He doesn't have the greatest luck.

Lost his test place because of his security concerns over touring Bangladesh.
Lost his one-day place because he was seen socialising with Ben Stokes.

There's also wafting outside the off stump as a test opener.

Is it all bad luck or is it just bad judgment?

Extremely unlucky that the guy beaten up on the floor decided to headbutt his foot a couple of times.

It must be tough for Hales having his private life laid bare for everyone to see.

Is the implication here that Hales is one of the parties who received homophobic abuse?

I see according to one Indian news website, some England cricketers on Buttler's stag do in Amsterdam disturbed a sex worker with a dildo, but what other rumours have now surfaced (allegedly)?

A busy work week and the other, more serious news stories have distracted me from caring about drunk English cricketers.
