Yes, Kohli likes these flat, lower pitches. India certainly got the deck they wanted. Now they have to make it count to keep the series alive.

It may be an Indian style deck but they don't have a normal Indian style attack so they may have a hard job forcing a win.

If they played Jadeja they'd win comfortably.

Non of the commentators has mentioned India's selection. Perhaps the nature of the surface wasn't apparent before the game.

Yes, two spinners would have better suited their purposes.

Ngidi looks like he may be okay.

South Africans understand spin bowling about as well as the English.

India have less understanding of their test side than Australia have of their ODI side if Rohit Sharma's continual selection is anything to go by.

As I guessed, Kohli is on to a big one. Issue is, he needs someone there to stick with him.

Also, decent debut day for Ngidi, he looks ok.

Pandya and Ashwin can assist Kohli. Ashwin will be important for them with the ball too on this atypical SA pitch.

Ngidi looks promising at this early stage.

The Pandya one was spectacularly dumb. He'd better hope his team-mates bail him out. Even worse when Pujara, who runs about as well as what I do went for a quick single off his first ball.

For those of you not watching, he just dawdled near the end and didn't run his bat in. In fact he was in mid-air over the crease and was run out because neither his bat or feet were grounded.

PS Graeme Smith really is a good commentator. For those of you who are less than impressed with the Channel 9/BT sport combo he's far better, but then again I think there is a good mix of commentators in SA.

Advantage SA here with India 287-8 48 runs behind. Even if India get a small lead, which is doubtful, I would have thought that batting last on a pitch that looks as though it is starting to break up would mean a chasing target of 250+ would be really tough.

Except Ashwin is arguably the best bowler to exploit these very unSouthAfrican conditions.

Game has reached a highly interesting stage after close to parity on first innings.

Which won't help India- looks like a 'bat once, bat big' pitch. And since that didn't happen...

I love a dumb runout, will try and check it out on the highlights later.

You should, it was pretty awful even Pujara was probably shaking his head in disbelief.

Off for a rain delay now, which works to India’s advantage, I would suggest. AB and Elgar were steadying the ship after a disastrous start to the innings and 5he balance of the day could be decisive one way or another.
