Australia v England T20's

First practice match about to start. Eng won the toss and elected to field.

A very strong PM's XI in opposition - funny how the Aussies can provide decent practice for a T20 match.

Eng team: Willey, Vince, Malan, Morgan, Billings, Buttler, Dawson, CurranS, Rashid, CurranT, Wood

PM's XI made 136-8. Dawson the standout took 3-16 from 4 overs, Willey 3-32 from 4 and Rashid 1-14 from 3.

England 42-0 off 4 and strolling. Listening to the Australian commentary is absolutely hilarious; is there something about the Australian psyche that means they are totally unable to call a match impartially?

David Willey has just taken a Nathan Lyon over for 34 (666664).

Willey's having fun. Wonder what the point in this exercise is, will they actually play him as an opener as oppose to proven International T20 batsmen?

34 off a Nathan Lyon over! Only hit a four off the final ball after 5 successive maximums, way to go!

Is it wrong to retire batsmen in a T20 to give others a go?

Shame we didn't bat first, this could've been massive.

What on earth has happened to him? He was useless in the BBL too.

Oz cruelly robbed Willey of a T20 ton by posting such a pitiful score

I think the last few years have seen him on the sauce a fair bit and he's gone quite rapidly downhill from what I can tell. He was a pretty key player for them in the last 50 over world cup from what little I remember?

Not sure we have too many proven T20i openers, Hales and that's about it. Roys averaging 20 and Buttler has only opened once in internationals.

I've said for a long time that if Willey is selected in the ODI team he should be opening, I'm not really of that mind for T20i as I think we might as well have Buttler in from the start but if we're going to use Willey as a bowler in this series I wouldn't mind him given a chance to open for 3 games.

I thought you'd be pleased! Can't deny it worked a treat today but it's one thing slogging around some Aussie pie chuckers and a different kettle of fish taking on quality international pace bowlers armed with a new ball. That said I wouldn't mind him being given a shot in the tri-series.

Brilliant opening spell from Billy Stanlake in the first match of the tri-series. Good pace too - consistently up around 150kph.

This innings has been a bit painful to watch. Reminds me of a few Ross Taylor innings for Sussex.

Much the same, both in team for their batting strike rate

30 T20s 282 runs at 20.14 HS41* s/r 154.94 Grandhomme
21 T20s 192 runs at 14.76 HS38 s/r 136.17 Stokes

10 wickets at 40.40 econ 8.78
10 wickets at 48.50 econ 9.03

Haha well it's more a combination of things rather than me being a fan of Willey.

I like a left/right combination at the crease, I really dislike Root coming in during the powerplay (not a big fan of Bairstow in the PP either) and Willey being rubbish lower down the order.

He looked really good in last years BBL, I haven't seen much of him this series though.

Australia win the toss and choose to bowl, Head in for Zampa.

England don't have Plunkett (maybe due to injury?)
1 Jason Roy, 2 Alex Hales, 3 Dawid Malan, 4 Eoin Morgan (capt), 5 Jos Buttler (wk), 6 Sam Billings 7 David Willey, 8 Adil Rashid, 9 Chris Jordan, 10, Tom Curran, 11 Mark Wood

Decent first 10 overs - 200 would be a challenging score to set.

No hope. Be lucky to get to 160 the way this is going now.
