Congratulations gals. That was superb. The men's teams should be strapped down in chairs a la Clockwork Orange and forced to watch this. For 3 days! Grit, determination and sheer bloody-mindedness. Sort of thing our wussie pants England men's teams are lacking. Anita Shrubsole should do the team talk at the Oval next Thursday. Threaten them with rusty garden implements if they don't get out there and give SA a good working over. Played 6 lost 1. What wouldn't Bayliss give for that right now? More importantly they played badly and won. On several occasions they looked down and out. They still got the job done. A Liverpool footie manager once said "The sign of a great team is when they can play s**** and still win". This is the most successful England cricket team ever. Sports team maybe.

If I understand Graves/Harrison correctly, the raison d'etre behind their new 20 over scheme is to attract a new audience (old farts not welcome), specifically mothers and their kids.
Watching the World Cup games I've seen loads and mothers and kids so perhaps Harrigraves should turn their attention to the women's game which could well provide the answers and render the new competition proposals redundant and irrelevant. I could be wrong, of course. |

As good and necessary as close-to-capacity crowds are at these games, it is important to make the experience family friendly. If that means having parts of the ground which are alcohol-free zones, so be it. I believe they do this in the Aussie Big Bash.

I went to Lord's for the first time in 6 years yesterday. Put off by extortionate pricing I've been getting my fixes on tours of the country. Things I noticed that had changed included ridiculous long queues to get in but far comfier seats in the Compton Upper. I took my 12 year old daughter who has been playing for just over a year. She is lucky to be coached by a former England Women's Head Coach (2003-07) who has daughters of a similar age and started a local club. A squad of 20 in 2016 is now over 50 this year and they are making startling progress - recently beat the school boys team!! It was great than India made the final - We got a large number of passionate fans instead of a smattering of Aussies which added so much to the occasion. The atmosphere was as good as I can remember - perhaps only rivalled by that Kaif/Yuvraj chase of 320 odd in the early 2000's. But this time we got the right result. I've been offered a £70 ticket to the Oval on Thursday - doesn't really feel like value for money after the £30 I spent yesterday!! |

Surely these are the last days of corporate junkets, and taxpayers won't allow their money to be used to finance such nonsense for much longer. London is probably already massively unrepresentative of UK cricket in this regard.

Gutted for India but they should be very proud of themselves - they've done the country proud.
Congrats to England, superb stuff under pressure and worthy winners! As others have said, this tournament feels like a watershed moment for women's cricket. |

I felt the same about the atmosphere. Cordially competitive without the boorish beery mentality (those who drank seemed to be able to handle it). Oddly, for one who is generally indifferent to children, I really enjoyed their wide eyed awe and enthusiasm. A father with two young girls sat behind me and he was constantly answering questions about why this and that was happening (including "Dad, why is the Spanish flag flying over the pavilion?"). I'll be at The Oval tomorrow, in the Peter May Stand. I've paid a similar amount for my ticket and, y'know, I bet the day isn't nearly so pleasantly enjoyable as Sunday. |

The TV numbers announced were astonishing. 1.1 million watched, more than the average Prem League game and 400,000 more than saw the conclusion of Eng v SA at Lord's. I went to a KSL match at the Ageas last year and it was great (I became quite the Elysse Perry fan I'm afraid), probably about 1500 there, will be plenty more this year I'm sure. All players hung around for ages afterwards signing autographs and taking pictures with kids. |

Funny how some matches remind you of others in the past..........had to look up this scorecard as it's been toying with me. Not quite as extreme but there were definite similarities.

I might try to catch a KSL game at The Oval or Guildford to see Surrey Stars, for whom Maids of Kent Beaumont and Marsh play. |

Good win for England today in the Tri Nations series in India. Beaumont and Sciver both smashing 50's as the Aussies were trounced.
Some good news for English Cricket!! |

And now a 52-ball century from Danni Wyatt leads them to a record run chase against India.

I've just had a Facebook comment 'liked' by Nat Sciver, who has followed it up with a friend request. I might be in for some Surrey Stars freebies here.
