Seems more like chest beating jingoism on your part rather than a debate iyam. It doesn’t do world - or English -cricket any favours to trumpet about the Ashes mattering more than other matches

It's fine to say that, but why were there so few people watching Perera's innings?

Current test cricket is bent to the will of three countries, prioritising the series between them as major flagships, to the delight of their own fans, but to detriment of matches involving other nations. Now, that's not to say that there low turnouts in other country's test matches are as a direct result, but it won't get any better if the status quo remains.

I make it 38 scores by England batsman of 20 or more - 3 centuries, 9 fifties and 26 between 20 and 50. For all the talk of proper test batting and building an innings, England batsmen are still incapable of cashing in. If we're to have even a sniff in Australia or India, a few of the England players will have to learn how to score big centuries, like their forebears did in 2012 and 2010, otherwise two more thrashings await.

Interesting to see Sri Lanka rack up 345-8 in an ODI against the W Indies without hitting a single 6. I can't imagine there have been any bigger totals without any sixes.

Shan Masood's 156 against England was a third consecutive test century. Since then he's gone 0 1 4 18 10 0 0 0. 33 runs from 8 innings.
