Madness that England fans don't want England to win this competition.

Madness.

Does Test Cricket need this 'competition'? Especially in the current environment.

If the choice were between a World Test Championship win or a series win in India, which one do you think an England fan would opt for?

As an Indian fan, I would rather take a series win in Aus, Eng, NZ or SA than a win in WTC.

I care far more about the series that we are just about to play. If England were to win AND qualify for WTC final then brilliant, but to be honest it would be an unbelievable achievement for this England team to merely win in India, let alone qualify for the final, something pretty much equal to what India just achieved in Australia.

It would be somewhat ironic if India won in Australia and England won in India and neither qualified for the Final because NZ had been hoovering up 2 Test Home series.

But yes, this year I care about the Ashes, the 2 series against India, the World T20, a few random one dayers........and then maybe the WTC.

I'd go for both - we could then be on course to be holders of the WC in all 3 formats.

The grand slam of cricket.

I can understand the need for that, but I'd be happy to win overseas test series if that means we don't get to be test champions.

Also, if England does win the series in India 2-0 or 3-1 or whatever they are supposed to win by, I think a lot of people around the world would still consider them as the best test team in the world currently, regardless of whatever happens during the finals of WTC at Lords.

A lot of people thought India were the best ODI team in the world and Dohni was the best finisher even after the last World Cup. Mostly Indian fans.

I'm part of a few forums and there weren't too many Indians who thought we were any good. In fact, most thought that MSD shouldn't have been in the team; his presence just put Rishabh Pant under a lot of pressure. Were there Indian fans who thought we were the best team? I'm sure there were. There still would be. The common consensus, even in India, was that the best team won.

England have just earnt 30 points, or half what NZ got for beating W indies at home.

A reminder that an England 2-1 series victory would see a NZ v Aus Final. It could happen...

Even more farcical would England not making it with a 2-0 series win in India.

We have to win 3 Tests, a 2-0 doesn't do it (unless we don't play the Final Test).
