There are 120 points available for every series. So winning a short series 1-0 will give more points than a longer series that was closer. What fun.

It makes playing the Ashes over 5 seem utterly daft. We should immediately cut it to 3 Tests and chuck in a couple against Bangladesh.

Posted it on another thread but is more relevant here. What I reckon the point system should have been like...

120 points for 4/5 match series
108 points for a 3 match series
84 points for a 2 match series

In addition, bonus 20 points for winning an away series
Bonus 8 points for drawing an away series.
Bonus 12 points for winning a home series, 4 points for drawing a home series.
Bonus 20 points for defeating a top 3 nation away, 10 points for defeating top 3 nation at home.

Personally I don't care about this championship.

I'm more interested in the series itself rather than the points on offer. Cricket is a contest between bat and ball. Yesterday's play was an example of a good contest.

If it works for others then fine but I think most purists would agree with me.

I fall on the complete opposite side, Test Championship should have started 15 years back when team rankings came into being. That is the way cricket is played at the domestic level, is it not? And from what I gather from player reactions, the players mostly feel the same way.

That would basically allow the big three to just buy their way to the final, as other countries can't really afford to host series of 4 or 5 Tests.

I’m opposed to this tournament and everything it stands for. It’s a farce, comparing series of just two tests with those comprising five tests. And it doesn’t comprise all the test playing nations. I spit on it, I p1ss on it. I sh1t upon it.

Correct - which apparently is why we're likely to rest a few before the 4 Tests in SA.

No, just saying that is how many Tests till the WTC final. I get the feeling that England won't be in it.
