If we had any designs on getting to the final then we wouldn't be playing 5 Tests in India.
Having looked at the International Calendar (and general form), I'm sticking to my Aus v India final prediction (and empty stands at Lord's). |

I’m guessing we’ve already moaned about this, but 3 home series against Pakistan in 5 years? 2 trips to Sri Lanka in what, 18 months?

NZ away as well for 2nd time in less than 2 years and we have now not played Bangladesh at home in nearly 10 years and are not scheduled to do so any time soon.

Which is crazy as it's an easy 120 points!! Or maybe we take the potential income and interest of a Home Test Series rather more seriously than a concocted, pointless competition.

Do I take it from the last few posts that it’s up to the boards who plays who? Surely that renders the final and thus the whole concept of the championship meaningless?

I think there are 120 points for each series which means you get more points for winning a short series than a longer one. The quality of the teams involved appears to be irrelevant which to me renders the whole thing a complete farce.

I suppose it counteracts the local economic and political forces to some degree. In every country there will be different factors constraining how long a series should be.

India 120 (2) New Zealand 60 (2) Sri Lanka 60 (2) Australia 56 (4) England 32 (4) West Indies 0 (2) With Root as captain and selector I can't see England playing in the Final. Pity Afghanistan wasn't included. They would have 60 points, Bangladesh 0. |

You've got to laugh at the scoring system even more now. England and Australia draw a 5 match series 2-2 and get 56 points. NZ and Sri Lanka draw a 2 match series and get 60 points.
At what point will they realise they've got the points wrong for a draw, let alone the amount for different length series? |

It's foolish for India to invite us to a 5 match series. You're right, a 2 and a 3 makes far more sense (apparently they have to be minimum of 2).

India 160 (3) NZ 60 (2) SL 60 (2) Aus 56 (5) Eng 56 (5) WI 0 (2) SA 0 (1) @cricvizanalyst India have been unstoppable at home in the last seven years. In their last 30 home Tests, they've won 24 of them (80%), drawn five and lost just the one test. Of all teams at home since 2013, they by a long way have the best win percentage. #INDvAUS India 80% Aus 69.6% SA 67.5% Eng 60.4% NZ 58.6% SL 50% Pak 47.8% WI 41.3% Ban 34.7 Ziim 18.1% Last edited by 1000yardstare : 6th October 2019 at 12:43. |
