This series result is highly unexpected, despite Australia's evident weaknesses. In the end, India were well-deserved winners and will be better for having to manage without Kohli, Ashwin, Jadeja and Ishant.
Well done Pujara, Gill, Rahane and Pant, together with Sundar and Thakur. India certainly has a depth of talent waiting in the wings. |

I had pondered going (I've got loads of BA Avios to use) but won't be bothering this time. |

While there is a lot of talk about how Kohli's absence helped this side, but I think what he and Shastri did with the team definitely has played a part in the fighting quality within the team.

Is there talk in India about that? I wrote something flippantly here which was a not too well hidden dig at KP who was dropped although still being one of the best six batsmen because he was more trouble than he was worth with his “me me me me” attitude. Kohli strikes me as similar so maybe the sum can be greater than the parts?

Gavaskar said a big part of India's success in this series was the BCCI organising tours for the India A teams to give their young players experience in Australian conditions and other overseas conditions along with the IPL where they mix with overseas players.
That's why their young players like Gill, Siraj, Pant and Washington can come in and perform in Australia against Australian players straight away. They are familiar with the conditions and the players and aren't intimidated like they might have been in the old days back when Sunny played. |

thing is that not every pitch in England is a swinger/seamer paradise and you get a bit of variety. Think India lost one match last time by not being able to cope with Moeen's spin at the Rosebowl. I tend to agree that England have an advantage if pitch favours Anderson & Broad in particular, but dont think that will be every match by any means.
I would fancy India on a flat pitch, for example as they have greater variety in bowling attack, and more batsmen who can fill their boots |

India have provided England with a pretty handy blueprint in how to beat Australia next summer. As good as Hazelwood & Cummins are and will be, if you can blunt Lyon and attack Starc then it leaves them with too much to do. If this series went into a fifth test I think one of those two would have broken down if not played at all. On the batting front, you just need one or two who can hang around, regardless or scoring rate, and then a middle-lower order who can counter-attack and capitalize on a tiring bowling unit, which England have in Stokes/Butler etc Australia's inability to post large totals at home against a green bowling unit despite having two bats who average 60 is just kinda baffling, and will be on their minds. As spirited as India's bowlers were in that last test, surely the likes of Wood, Broad, Anderson, Archer ect will pose more questions/problems?
