Largely pointless stat but amused me. Jimmy Anderson is 15 months older than umpire Nitin Menon who is standing in this Test. The last time a player was older than an umpire was Misbah and Michael Gough in 2016.

Root has now been the top scorer in a Test 18 times, which takes him to the top of the England stats above Cook, Hutton, Hammond and Cowdrey who all had 17.

Anderson now has 343 wickets since turning 30, and in this Test went past Courtney Walsh.
In the list of top English bowlers, only Broad and Botham have more than that number. |

@AWSStats
England's best bowling figures in Chennai: 1st inns: Bess 26-5-76-4 2nd inns: Leach 26-4-76-4. It is the 1st time in Tests that a team has had identical best bowling figures in each innings in Overs-Runs-Wkts. |

Anderson needs only 9 more wickets to overtake Kumble and challenge the spin bowlers’ supremacy.
Realistically, however, as brilliant as JA is, he’s unlikely to get anywhere near Warne and Murali.

I saw somewhere that in the last three matches Joe Root has, in one of his innings, scored more runs than the opposition side in one of theirs. Never happened before as a consecutive feat.
Also India have only lost four years matches at home in the last ten years, 3 against England and the last defeat was four and fourteen matches ago against the Aussies.

@ESPNcric_stats
England break a 66-year-old record in Test cricket! India's 329 in Chennai is the highest innings total without any extras https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EuKTWs-U...png&name=small @ZaltzCricket Not only is 329 the highest score made with zero extras, but this was also the fifth longest innings without an extra, and longest in 1878 Tests played since July 1962: https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...extras_innings |

Niche Moeen Ali stat - he became the first person yesterday to score 100 runs in all the batting positions from 4 to 9. I think it highlights just how much England have ****ed about with him.
