So true, no doubt all the drama queens will be out in force come the end of August to wail and despair about how wonderful she was.

Will vote for Holding, think he's easily the best of the sky crew. Also he came to the crowd to sign some autographs yesterday, and he got given an ovation that would have compared to the players, yours truly being sad enough to catch him with my camera phone. Legend!!!!!

I stayed in the same hotel as Holding in 2004 on the WI tour. Every day the two of us sat in the morning in the hotel's business centre catching up on emails. Chatted a bit - esp about Brian Lara who he thinks has been a disaster for WI cricket - until one morning I asked him what he thought about Ashley Giles....

I didnt speak to him after that.

Actually you are wrong because he didnt mention anything at all about Giles being far and away the best spinner available to England at the time.

yes mikey holding is far and away the best commentator on the team.
i remember catching up with him at edgbaston for the 2005 ashes match and i asked him about the state of the match and englands chances of regaining the ashes.i found him to be very agreeable and very talkative and mr.holding even signed my wife mini cricket bat,something which we will be ever proud of,and it takes pride of place in our bedroom!(we are always on the look about for autographs)
i find david lloyd an interesting character,
and not forgetting the great willis for his scathing interviews and forthright comments!

I find Lloyd amusing in small doses and Willis's comments in the studio great stuff, especially when Colvile winds him up, he goes off on one! Willis has been a great addition to the studio rather than his blandness in the commentary box. I wonder if they'll give the stat man Bermange a bit more of a higher profile.

They give him a spot on Cricket AM. He could become the cricket equivalent of Statto on the much missed Fantasy Football show.

yeah I've seen him on that its pretty good, he's good at sending himself up, but I'm thinking more of a lunch or team time brak thing where they review some of the more interesting facts.

Mitchell was 21 when she got her first taste of cricket broadcasting, making coffee for Richie Benaud as a runner for TV production company Sunset + Vine. Now 27, she has worked for the BBC Asian Network and covered countless county games for Radio Five Live.

But her big break came in March - albeit in unfortunate circumstances - when she was the only BBC representative on the island of Jamaica at the time of Bob Woolmer's tragic death. Mitchell worked around the clock to cover the story for every BBC network under the sun, impressing the top brass with her command of the subject. Now she has been given her chance on this BBC Scotland production, which is being picked up by ESPN and broadcast to millions across Asia.

Women have broken into the TV commentary boxes before, notably the former England captains Clare Connor and Rachael Heyhoe Flint, but they have usually worked as summarisers - sidekicks, in other words. As a career broadcaster who will be anchoring the coverage alongside Jonathan Agnew, Mitchell comes from a different category altogether. And about time too.

Alison Mitchell was also the journalist to whom Bob Woolmer spoke in his final interview. Some of us on here noticed the excellent work she was doing during the World Cup and speculated that her profile would be raised because of it. Congratulations to Alison and I wish her success on her international debut.

From the few times I've heard her on TMS, she hasn't been too bad. If it means Arlo White and Kevin Mitchell are kept off the mike, all the better.
