Frankly he just has no idea. I think that's the best way to look at it. Occasionally he comes up with something a bit odd but interesting but mostly he's just hopelessly wrong.

How will that affect Harmison?
For Botham Harmison was a god but lately there hasn't been a peep out of him. He was even saying a recent England bowling attack was the best he'd seen since 2005. He does talk some rubbish but he was always Harmison's biggest supporter. Will he come out and defend him? The MRF Pace Foundation in India think that if England sent him over there they would sort him out in a week but it is articles like this one maybe that would keep setting him back. |

I'm a little suspicious that he is saying this now that Harmison has come into a bit of form. Throughout the time when Harmy has been bowling 95% dross, other teams have queued up to tell us that he is the bowler they most fear and England would be mad to leave him out.

So who would Cooley leave out. Tait will just have to wait for injuries. As for the Indians having the best swing bowlers in the world - it did look that way when Khan and RP Singh were bowling against us earlier this year. How many genuine swing bowlers are there at the moment? About 15? Who are they? |

He'd do well to remember that it's only recently Brett Lee has learnt to bowl a decent length, and until he did he regularly went round the park (The Oval 2005 springs to mind). He'd also do well to remember Shaun Tait's 2-game spell for Durham in 2004. Combined figures for the 2 games 18-0-179-1. That's deadly accurate, isn't it Thommo? ![]()

Would actually also be selective amnesia to remember Tait's most recent game as well. Granted that the waca wasn't at its quickest but it wasn't that slow either and he still bowled like a drain.

Hilfenhaus hasn't swung the ball that much this year in domestic cricket. Steyn seems to have swung it both ways recently. |

I wouldn't describe Steyn as a specialist swinger, he obviously is a speed through the air man. Hilfenhaus from what I've seen so far (albeit rather limitedly) seems to be an away swing specialist. I caught a couple of highlights shows in India that showed Aussie domestic ODs and the Tassies were shown. Obviously the only other times I've seen Hilf was in ODIs/T20.

SA has good strength especially with the emergence of Steyn as someone who looks world class, but its hard to judge them on their last 2 series against very weak batting line-ups but they are well balanced by having as a 5th bowler in Kallis who is clearly better than a mere part-timer like Collingwood and gives the full timers the chance to rest. Not sure about Nel or Ntini these days, though, but Harris has been a boost to them, though I'd be suprised if he did that well in India.
