Well Southee has been dropped. He had an amazing Under 19 World Cup but I never thought he would go on like Sharma has. I think he might do well in ODIs should he manage to get back in the side. People will say he is only 19 and has only played 4 Tests but he will have to wait for injuries to the other fast bowlers.

Franklin is quite an interesting left arm bowler. Sometimes he goes for lots of runs and other times is amazing. Another leftie to join Khan, Singh, Pathan, Sidebottom, Vaas, Johnson, Tanvir.

The only bowlers still playing with strike rates of under 50.0, a must for any team. I have a feeling that Steyn's will rise when he faces Australia this month. Franklin and Asif stand out as they aren't as fast as the other four. Usually these types of bowlers go for more runs than a good Test fast bowler who would have an economy rate of under 3.0 but as a team you would want one as they can be really called strike bowlers. I think an ideal for a bowler would be an average under 25.0, economy under 3.0 and a strike rate under 50 but those bowlers are few and far between. I was surprised to see Franklin has as many as 76 test wickets. Whilst his strike-rate is pretty good, he only has three 5-fers, against Australia, Bangladesh and the West Indies, three of the weaker nations in test cricket. If he has such a good strike-rate, should he not have more 5 wicket hauls?

In contrast Steyn has three times as many in just 6 more tests (27 compared to 21), Bond has more in 4 tests fewer, Akhtar had 4 times as many in little over half as many tests, Asif has more in half as many. Jones also only has three 5 wicket hauls, but again in fewer tests.

Franklin is consistent. He reminds me of Gladstone Smalls early career in this respect.

Steyn just takes advantage of playing ***** nations.

Good to see Franklin back in International cricket after all his injury problems. Southee will come again I'm sure. Time in domestic cricket will do him good in fact I'm sure a stint in England playing for a county would really help.

No I wouldn't call them strike bowlers either and I agree he is not in their class and won't have as long a career as they did. Just picking the first names I could think off here are the bowler's s/rs at their 21st Test and how they stand at present. I don't think Steyn and Franklin will keep their present strike rates just as Lee and Gillespie haven't. Donald and Akhtar got theirs under 50.0

The bowlers who have over 150 wickets who are under 30 are the spinners Harbhajan, Vettori and Kaneria. All have another 10 years international bowling.

Murali could play another 4 years and as he averages about 62 wickets a year so he possibly could have 1000 wickets. I don't think anyone will go past him but then I thought no one would ever pass Walsh when he got his 500th wicket.

Only one fast bowler has managed to pass him, McGrath with 563. With all the cricket around these days no fast bowler will match McGrath's international career of 15 years.

Maybe Ntini and Vaas are hoping to make that 500 mark but the older they get the more chance of injuries and an up and coming bowler replacing them after a couple of poor series. Lee has said he wants to play another 4 years but he might not even be playing in the next match.

FBU how many times has Sharma sorted out Ponting in both tests and ODI's. I know it was 3 times in the recent series in India and at least once in Aus in tests (Perth) but how many times overall?

I don't think anyone will go past him but then I thought no one would ever pass Walsh when he got his 500th wicket. Only one fast bowler has managed to pass him, McGrath with 563. With all the cricket around these days no fast bowler will match McGrath's international career of 15 years. Maybe Ntini and Vaas are hoping to make that 500 mark but the older they get the more chance of injuries and an up and coming bowler replacing them after a couple of poor series. Lee has said he wants to play another 4 years but he might not even be playing in the next match.
