Tendulkar was basically a "lifetime achievement award" - a bit like Giggs getting BBC SPOTY. They should rename these the "IPL stars" cricket awards. |

The same old players (emphasis on "old") get the awards year after year. I think the adjudication panel needs a shake up. I presume it isn't the same panel as the one that made the original cock up with the long lists. If there is likely to be a batsman bias why don't they have awards for test batsman, test bowler etc. ? |

During the period under consideration for the award - August 24, 2009 to August 10, 2010 :
6 hundreds in 10 tests for Sachin against SA, SL and Bangla with 2 hundreds against each country, average of 80 something although he played SL too many times. 1000 runs in a year. Swanny the GOD meanwhile 6 five fors with a bowling average of 27 in 10 tests with games against Pakistan, SA and Bangladesh with 3 five fors against Bangladesh playing them 4 times in the period(!), 2 five fors against SA and 1 against Pakistan. One day wise, Swann did amazing apart from the Champs trophy and the SA tour where he wasnt that good. Most his games were played in England though. Sachin played most in India as well. Swann's no doubt been very good in one day cricket and when comparing him with Sachin directly Swann's probably had more impact on the results although Sachin scored a 200 in an ODI something no one will repeat for ages. Test wise with Swann facing Bangladesh so much and only averaging 27 and then playing an awful pakistan batting line up in those first two tests, Sachin's performances have been much better in tests ![]()

Vettori was still a fair call. Took a wicket in all bar one game (where his figures were 0/25) and never went at more than 4.5 runs an over. A startlingly consistent one-day bowler. Shakib and Swann would have been equally fair calls though. Shakib for doing a job on his own at times, Swann for consistent displays of attacking off-spin.

Funnily enough I was going to do a post defending SRT's claims on the crown, however after all my hard work it is ******* DDB who does the bloody business!*
*Except for that last line, but I'll let you off.

Actually after my earlier post my attention was drawn to Tendulkar's one day performances and I have to agree that he had a pretty impressive year so perhaps the judges were right.

Good to see Jimmy and Swanny in the test team. Shame about the batsmen!

Anyhow,
Ponting being selected as the Captain of the one day squad is the question everyone should be debating about.....rather than misplaced jingoistic rants. |

I'm sure Sehwag deserved his award - not many batsmen can get a decent score on the bowler friendly pitches of Sri Lanka. |

Anyhoo, who should have got that award? Oh yes Swanny the leader of wickets against Bangladesh and Pakistan ![]() And even WeStMiDz was a better WUM than this. Saying this though what I actually mean is Amla was ****ing good this year as well but cos Sehwag is a true IPL star he won.
