It smacks of lacking vision and certainly does not inspire.

Status quo maintained methinks, forget about the Ashes thrashing.

I actually think SL will beat us now in the test series.

I'd take anyone over Giles, even my Mum.

I think the latter. I think England will win comfortably and defeat an Indian side who now seem completely apathetic to test cricket. And those in charge will pat themselves on the back and think they made a great appointment when in reality the team will not have progressed at all and will probably be found out again when the going gets tough.

Is Moores just Giles' cricketing doppelganger though?

There's really no keeping a secret in the ECB, is there? Any announcement is always spoiled the night before.

Strange that Farbrace had only just been appointed the SL coach. Can't imagine Sri Lanka being too happy that he's left after just a few months.

It was that self-centered Agnew who blew it by tweeting the announcement then deleting it and pretending that it was meant to be a DM.

Dunno fella. All I know is I find Giles a complete bore who did nothing fruitful with the limited overs teams during his tenure.

The shortlist was hardly inspiring.

I wouldn't particularly blame a journalist for breaking the news if it was a 'scoop'. Depends whether it was meant to be a secret, or if they all knew and were under an embargo not to say until tomorrow. Makes the announcement look pretty pointless either way.

Except for the rather significant difference that Hoddle did a decent job as England manager first time around.

Giles may be a bore but can you remember Moores's technobabble last time? Maybe they gave it to whoever is least likely to want to pick KP. Good luck to him anyway.

So Peter Moores it is, apparently. I think I prefer him to Giles but that is not saying much.

I hear you Sharky. As I said hardly an inspiring shortlist.

I'd assumed that Moores had been put forward as a candidate to make us feel better about Giles.

I'm having to turn to drink.

Let us burn the urns in memory of the death of English cricket.

Fine by me. As I said anyone but the tepid Giles. Who else didn't overly matter. Pretty much all dirge.
