County Cricket - TV coverage

Is there any "free to view" TV coverage round up - watching Sky news last night - no mention - BBC - no mention?

You may find that most counties websites might have brief highlights of games. That's probably your best bet.

Sky Sports News did a highlights round up but you've basically got to either hang around watching that channel for a long time or record large segments as they don't have a set time to show them. They just fit it in around the masses of football news.

Last season Yorkshire tweeted brief highlights of each day (I assume they're also on YouTube). I didn't spot anything last night although I was out so may have missed it. Equally it could have been censored for the weak of stomach.

ECB does daily highlights of every single game as far as I know. These are just filmed from a stationary camera at each end, so you don't see what happens in the outfield.

Slightly off topic but... have just joined the ipad generation and want to know if I can listen to BBC cricket commentaries on it from the website. It looks as though they are Media Player only which won't work...

Does anyone else listen through Realplayer... ideally on an i-wotsit of some sort.

Technologically baffled

Is the TuneIn app on Apple? I have it on an Android phone and listen to commentaries through that. It's a little complicated because you have to know which 'BBC Live Event' you want to listen to, but that's often mentioned on Twitter and there are other ways to find out.

Tunein is def on iPad and is free - brilliant for finding commentaries from abroad during the winter too. You need, as mentioned above, to search for "BBC Live Event" and unless you already know the number of the stream, work your way through them (there are about 20). Typically whatever system I use, the one I want is always in the last 1 or 2 I try...

If you go to the BBC Sport page for the commentary, there's a link that says "Windows Media version of this stream". For example, the Yorks/Somerset game here. If you hover your mouse over it, you can see that in this case it says 'int16.asx' at the end of the link - that means it's Live Event 16 on TuneIN. You can find the correct number for the stream you want this way.

If you're on a tablet/mobile/etc, click the link and you'll see the number when it tries to download a file.

Brilliant, Rey!

I was going to ask about these Live Events but you have answered the question. I will try it out tomorrow.

I was feeling shortchanged that the internet radio commentaries didn't work on mobile devices. Then just by chance I heard one of the Surrey commentators explaining about the BBC Live Events and mentioned the number for that game. I already have Tune-in Radio but as mentioned above it's a very tedious process to find the live event covering the match you want to listen to. And the information isn't readily available on twitter or from commentators. I tweeted @LancsMEN the other day and they suggested I contact @BBCLancashire - who were dead helpful "Nothing to do with the BBC".

It's very hit and miss. On Monday one of the YB40 matches was on 3 of those events at the same time while other matches weren't covered at all, but some of the live events slots weren't being used.

I shall see if it works the way Rey explains but I think it would be useful if this facility were publicised a bit more and information given as to which event was which. Without the explanation how would people know what on earth int.16asx meant?

However, maybe because it's now 23.50 and there is no live action, I just tried out the link but hovering revealed nothing at all. I shall try again tomorrow!
