The big wicket for WIs.

If England lose two more by lunch they'll have this tonight.

Malan getting another life. England's newbies this summer can hardly say they haven't been given chances by the other teams...

Seems to have been a game of dropped catches so far.

More likely W.Indies. can see them struggling to get 100. Reckon it'll be around 200 to chase.

True. This situation is good for them..under pressure in more ways than one. Sort the men from the boys.

Really poor shot that from Root. Very disappointing. At the other end Malan looks like getting out to Holder every ball.

One positive thing Malan is doing is coming along way down the pitch to Holder to negate the movement. Bayliss likes his mental strength. He'll need all of it here.

A whopping 18 for Malan. He's still there I suppose, that's the main thing in the context of this match.

The correspondent on TMS at the Lancashire game confirming my thoughts that Hameed's struggles earlier this season were due to playing more loosely, probably due to instructions from the England hierarchy to score more quickly. Apparently he went back to basics in the last match and got runs. Hopefully this continues and they can just let him develop naturally.

A bit fortunate still to be there, though. He doesn't really look cut out for an Ashes series and even if he does score many more runs between now and the end of this series, we'll still not really be any the wiser.

Invaluable century partnership with the captain, however. He will need all his "character" to help blunt the new ball after lunch.
