Sangakkara presumably. it's an all-time list. With star batsmen he hopes the tail doesn't need to wag. It's an old-fashioned idea, the batsmen score the runs, the bowlers take the wickets.

I give him credit for batting Steyn above Warnie and McGrath above Anderson as it will annoy both immensely.

I am sure that's the case, but Sanga's record as a keeper was more modest (avg about 40), which weakens the top 6 a lot!

He must have crossed paths with Lara at some point early on in his career.

Lara was playing for Warwickshire in the mid-90s, when Bell would have been 12 or 13, so he might have got an autograph but not a game in the same team. .

Bell made his test debut in 2004 v a WI team that included Lara. Both players made 70s, and Lara retired a few months later.

I don't suppose he felt that just the one match justified including Lara in his XI. Doesn't mean he isn't one of his heroes, though. He's certainly one of mine.

Mike Atherton's gone down in my estimation then.

Shouldn't discussion about Bell, a player still under contract with England, be taking place on this thread rather than a spurious one mischievously created on the wrong forum? Are the mods asleep?

When Bell is definitely a former player this thread can be moved to the ex-international forum. Meanwhile I request that the relevant posts be moved here. Thank you.

I simply saw it a gbg wind up on the subject, as did others too if you noted the responses to it. I couldn't help myself mention the other day that Bell had scored a fifty on the England player watch thread, knowing that Psy would be quick off the trigger to mention that it was yet another 'pretty little fifty'.....

Might it be worth scrapping the retired players forum and just leaving the threads in the forums they were originally in?

Just a superfluous post on a pointless thread? Also, missed the joke.

Only, that team happened to be India, arguably the worst test touring team.
