Well said MPV for stressing the importance of playing for pride.

Also: how would KP and Piers feel if this time England avoided the same abysmal whitewash that happened last time? Presumably contemptuous of the team's attempt to regain respect. We must assume that in 2013/14 thoughts about team spirit, pride and respect did not trouble Kevin.
Move on! It's four years ago.

With broad and cook being brilliant in this match we just need moeen to chip in with a cheeky little dive wicket haul and this place will go into meltdown. That was be great fun.

Funny as seeing people try to defend his comments. Maybe football teams should just stop running if 4-0 down with three mins left? Or someone fourth in a running race should just stop when they know they can't catch.

You could easily argue that even in a winning team people are playing for their place maybe we should discuss with Adam Lyth.

Just realised Broad only needs 3 more wickets for his 400th.

Might get them overnight.

"Defend his comments" - did he make some kind of transphobic remark about his nephew?

Rain and thunderstorms forecast for Melbourne today. Not guaranteed, but something like 60% chance.

Everybody talking about Cook but the rest of the England batting was poor. too many silly shots. If they had applied themselves they could have batted Australia out of it.

Well, that’s 3 overs completely wasted, 9 if you consider last night. 9 overs for 18 runs. Poor cricket from England.

Any optimism I had yesterday has dissipated. Was hoping for a few more runs from England to start with. Fielding has been sloppy. Umpires allegedly biased towards Aussies re scuffing the ball etc. One law for them.....

Australia only 120 behind. So much for an England victory. Might just go back to bed.

Straya now two down as Jimmy gets Khawaja. Here comes Stevie and the partnership which may just decide the outcome of the match.

Just because Khawaja came down the track to Mo was no reason to pull him from the attack. Gee whizz, Root - back your spinner to bounce back the way Lyon did yesterday when Mo went after him.

He clearly does not back him, but does Moeen back himself?

Aus has been a graveyard for many an off spinner but I never had much faith that Moeen would have a great impact given his record away from England. His batting has been surprisingly poor, though.

Not according to a graphic on BT Sport - not done so in several hundred first class games.
