Each match that goes by like this makes the ashes selection more bizarre. Suddenly he goes from specialist spinner in the ashes to third choice in the back up.

I'm sure Livingstone came on first because the WIA opened up with two left handers every coach / captain seems to practice that as plan A. But still Leach made the initial breakthrough almost immediately. By close Livingstone should have had three wickets yesterday Hamilton appeared to be badly dropped at short leg after the ball nicely looped up maybe 8 foot high with the short leg maybe having to move no more than a yard. The catch was taken with both hands but not held onto. Was the fielder (Gubbins?) more interested in the send off?

I watched Crane's first over, the first three balls included a half-tracker and a no-ball. He seeems to be having his problems at the moment.

Maybe they simply believed the reaction to his spell in Oz the year before. It's not like they had lots of opportunity to watch him.

The question has to be asked that if he is really struggling to simply land the ball at the moment, then why the blazes is he even playing? Of course this simply might be to keep him away from the clutches of the famed ECB bowling coaches at Bluffborough..............

I got shot down by some one here when I said that I had heard crane was bowling dreadfully in the nets...I also saw some of him yesterday and he looked below Birmingham league level. Weird.

I think a certain amount of antipathy may be because it appears you are bitching about your man Leach not getting a go. Sure it appeared weird to many on here that Crane got the Ashes gig given his lack of bowling in English First Class Cricket and appeared to be more of a ride to try and see how he adapts. However having real problems landing the ball in such a way that he barely bowls any overs in these games for Lions tours means the continued wisdom of him playing games is absurd. Unfortunately the Lions head honcho is Andy Flower, whose understanding/evaluation of developing players is not exactly renowned.
