'All other players will attend a training camp next week, with the squad for the 1st Investec Test against India likely to be announced once the next round of championship games have been completed'.

That would be for the specialist spinner the selector's will be searching for. Maybe to give Ali more overs of bowling.

i.e. none will be released for county cricket other than Moeen.

They're just dishonest tossers aren't they?

There is an irony in the only exception to the decision. Moeen Ali, who batted throughout the final day to take England within two balls of saving the Test and the series, will play in Worcestershire's Championship match against Glamorgan. While there will be few concerns about his batting, the England selectors will be keen to see him gain some more bowling time with the red ball after Moeen admitted in Leeds that he felt more confident delivering his doosra with the white ball.

Four members of England’s West Indies tour party have been made available to Yorkshire to make their first appearances of the season in the LV= County Championship against Hampshire at Headingley on Sunday.

Adam Lyth, Jonny Bairstow, Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett have all missed the first three games of Yorkshire’s title defence, and Bairstow and Rashid have both been included in the England squad for the Royal London One-Day International against Ireland in Dublin on Friday.

But they are among seven members of the West Indies squad set to return for their counties this weekend.

Moeen Ali has been made available to make his second appearance of the season for Worcestershire in their Division One derby against Warwickshire which starts at Edgbaston on Saturday.

Mark Wood, who is another member of the Dublin squad, is clear to play in Durham’s home game against Nottinghamshire, and James Tredwell will rejoin Kent ahead of their Division Two match at home to Glamorgan.

Jonathan Trott has been left to discuss his plans for the rest of the summer with Warwickshire following his retirement from international cricket, and the remaining nine members of the West Indies squad – Alastair Cook, James Anderson, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Chris Jordan, Joe Root and Ben Stokes – have been made unavailable for the next round of LV= County Championship matches.

The England management have also requested that any player selected in the squad for the first Investec Test against New Zealand at Lord’s, which starts on 21 May, is not selected for the opening round of NatWest T20 Blast matches on 15 May, with the Test squad expected to be named on 14 May.

The Big Bash also suffers unavailability during the domestic Tests.

Why only one match for Hales? I'd have thought he'd be in need of red ball practice.

It surely can't be burnout as Root gets two matches.

Seven of the 11 players who were on duty in the fourth Investec Test against Pakistan at the Kia Oval have been released to play for their counties in either the Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-finals this Wednesday and Thursday, or NatWest T20 Finals Day at Edgbaston this Saturday – or both

It's only actually Cook who could have been playing county cricket but hasn't been released.

The majority of England’s centrally contracted players will be available to play for their counties in the early stages of the Specsavers County Championship and the Royal London One-Day Cup this spring.

That means Essex’s return to Division One of the Championship against Lancashire at the Cloudfm County Ground in Chelmsford is set to include an intriguing individual battle between Alastair Cook and James Anderson, with Haseeb Hameed and his fellow Lions tourists Liam Livingstone and Tom Westley also involved.

Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad, Jake Ball, Alex Hales, Steven Finn, Mark Wood, Keaton Jennings, Liam Dawson, James Vince and the Yorkshire quintet of Jonny Bairstow, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, David Willey and the newly-appointed England Test captain Joe Root will also be available to make at least one appearance in the opening three rounds of Championship matches.

Then all of them have been made available for the opening three rounds of matches in the Royal London One-Day Cup, which has been brought forward in the season this year building to a final at Lord’s on Saturday 1 July.

That means Broad, Ball and Hales are set to face Moeen when Notts Outlaws play Worcestershire Rapids in the first round of matches in the North Group on 27 April.

Bairstow, Root, Plunkett, Rashid and Willey will all be available for Yorkshire Vikings’ first three games in the tournament – against the Outlaws at Trent Bridge on 29 April, and the home games at Headingley against Lancashire Lightning on Bank Holiday Monday (1 May, live on Sky Sports), and Durham on 3 May.

Eight players - Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes – are unavailable to their counties in the early weeks of the season having signed to play in the Indian Premier League.

Four other players - Root, Bairstow, Moeen and Ball - will miss their counties’ opening Championship matches after especially busy winters, and with England’s schedule for the summer of 2017 and beyond in mind.

England player availability

Jimmy Anderson (Lancashire) – Specsavers County Championship match against Essex (7-10 April) and Somerset (21-24 April); Royal London One-Day Cup matches against Leicestershire Foxes (28 April) & Yorkshire Vikings (1 May).

Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire) - SCC v Leicestershire (7-10 April) & Sussex (21-24 April); RLODC v Worcestershire Rapids (27 April), Yorkshire Vikings (29 April) & Derbyshire Falcons (2 May).

Jake Ball – (Nottinghamshire) - SCC v Durham (14-17 April) & Sussex (21-24 April); RLODC v Worcestershire Rapids (27 April), Yorkshire Vikings (29 April) & Derbyshire Falcons (2 May).

Moeen Ali (Worcestershire) - SCC v Northamptonshire (21-24 April); RLODC v Notts Outlaws (27 April), Leicestershire Foxes (30 April) and Northants Steelbacks (3 May).

Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire) – SCC v Hampshire (21-24 April); RLODC v Notts Outlaws (29 April), Lancashire Lightning (1 May) and Durham (3 May).

Joe Root (Yorkshire) – same as Bairstow.

Adil Rashid (Yorkshire) – SCC v Warwickshire (14-17 April) & Hampshire (21-24 April); RLODC v Notts Outlaws (29 April), Lancashire Lightning (1 May) and Durham (3 May).

Keaton Jennings, Mark Wood, Alastair Cook, Liam Dawson, James Vince Haseeb Hameed Steven Finn Ben Duckett, Alex Hales, Gary Ballance, Liam Plunkett, David Willey – available for all matches.

Broad and Anderson not playing any cricket from beginning of 1 & 2 May until 7 July. Two months sitting at home. Also no red ball cricket from end of April. Surely they can play a red ball game on 19 May.
