And the bowling is significantly better. The difference between the problems at the top of the order is they occur quicker than they did at the WC, rather than being 5/1 after five overs or whatever. There is a different ethos in the team too, generally more aggressive in all areas of the game, which was definitely lacking in the WC.

I am quite happy with Mustard opening and he will get better as he gets used to international bowling. It's his keeping I worry about.

Do you think Prior will be picked once this series is over? I prefer Mustard at the top - I know he's failed to kick on and his keeping isnt that great but if he does get dropped I would like to see Solanki rather than Prior replace him.

Me too, but I don't think many people agree with others.

I think Prior will be picked. Mustard is an injury replacement. Whether he plays in ODIs again will be up to Moores but Collingwood has seen what he can at do Durham and might want to keep him. I wonder where it will leave Wright.

Cook has said that he wants to learn to hit over the field in the powerplays so he is not just thinking of just playing his normal game.

I don't think Mustard has done anything wrong but my hunch is the selectors prefer Prior.

Well Ali topped the batting averages for the Sri Lanka ODI series. Doesn't mean all that much given how poor all the other batsmen were.

http://stats.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/...3150;type=tour

More alarmingly, only Swann and Mustard got a strike rate of over 80.

absolutely nothing wrong. getting over 27 runs in any innings would have merely been a bonus.

We do appear to be setting the bar rather low if people think Mustard has been a success. That's not to say he's entirely been a failure, and we may need some more evidence, but success would be going a bit far.

This "everyone was bad so no individual was bad" doctrine is a new one on me.

If Bopara doesn't get a bat, it means that your no.5 and 6 have been able to slog successfully. With Bopara still waiting to come in, they should have started the slog earlier than if only Mustard was waiting to come in.

Saw him on SSN. Looked like he had just stepped out of the shower. When I arrive anywhere I just look a wreck.

I think all the players living in the south fly to Heathrow and the northerners fly to Manchester airport, all 3 of them. You wonder if they would want to go on holiday for a couple of weeks (more travelling) or would they rather stay at home. Also what is the first thing they do when they get home? Make a proper cup of tea?
