On cricketing merit I think he would be in England's best team.

Had a brief moment of confusion seeing the name S Tait in that scorecard for the South Africans. Are we reverse kolpaking now.

It took me a while to realise this was a reduced game as well.

It does seem odd we score at nearly 7 an over and lose in this fashion.

Agree. Even leaving aside rotation and recognising that there are reasons why youd want to play Morgan as captain and Root, as a very decent ODI bat and insurance against collapses, Hales is unlucky. He belongs in the top three and the openers are fixed but Id prefer him to Root at 3. The astonishing thing is that hes not one of our best couple of batsmen, as he would have been in any other era. Roy, Bairstow, Stokes and Buttler are all time England greats in the format.

Is Hales 'available for selection'? I thought he was excluded from the WC squad and is still not selectable...

Apparently there was a power cut, and when it was restored England set the hosts 85 to win off 10 overs.

Did we set them that just to challenge the bowlers, or was it DLS? The way it's been writing suggests the former

Imagine having Shaun Tait replace all the quality that's left their shores!

Think England set it to test their death bowling. Interesting to see what a DLS target would have been but no doubt higher than 85. Shows England's death bowling is lacking.

Great news that Jonny got a ton, he’s had a frustrating time. Parky looking good too, plus Joe Denly seems determined to prove his critics wrong.

Think Mahmood can forget about a place in the starting11.

I would have thought he would be better off with the Lions in Australia.
