Batting practice for Root and Morgan then. Never mind the rest.

Good win - excellent knocks for Morgan and Root.

Tougher challenges ahead .

The host batting was stronger than the bowling, so really this was another MotM effort by Moeen.

Herath has announced that he is going to retire after the first test at Galle. Seems like a curious decision to me but it’s got to be a good thing from an English perspective.

Perhaps my apocalyptic prediction of a 3-0 might not materialise then? Still 13 away games without a win for England in tests.

England have lost away by an innings 5 times since their last away win.

And since the start of 2013 England have 4 test wins in 33 away tests across 9 series.

A win apiece in drawn series in Bangladesh and West Indies and then scarcely believably 2 wins (and a series victory) at then top of the ICC rankings South Africa.

Yeah that's rather strange, it's not even his home ground which would make some sense.

England are set to fly Surrey’s Ben Foakes to Sri Lanka as wicketkeeping cover with Jonny Bairstow highly unlikely to be fit for the First Test in Galle next month.

Mark Wood and Liam Plunkett will come in for Chris Woakes and Olly Stone, while Sam Curran and Joe Denly, who last played international cricket nine years ago, could play too. Captain Eoin Morgan was even said to be considering whether to drop himself tomorrow, to give fringe players more time in the middle.

Makes sense to change the side and give the others a game.

Not sure why Foakes is being sent over, we already have Pope and at a push Burns out there to cover for Buttler, if they actually intend to give him a game if Bairstow is injured then I can understand it but I'd rather we played an extra top order batsman instead as we're desperate to find two openers and a number 3 another wicketkeeper / lower order bastsman not so much.

Perhaps the Surrey honchos are taking over the asylum.

Why don't they just ship out all county players who are not otherwise engaged?
Surely it would provide valuable experience of the England environment and crawling up the backsides of the decision makers.

Always happens when England win a series they take their foot of the pedal. Very English, give everybody a go and never mind the result.
