That’s a very generous (uncharacteristic?) article about a Pom. (But it was one of Root’s best efforts in alien conditions.) More so than the jeering Aussie spectators were to most of our players yesterday.

Next wicket the flood gates should open, but if these two can last until tea then who knows?

The end is nigh. Root sick again and hasn't come out after lunch. Bairstow goes, still no Root so we get Broad, out for 4 second ball. Root might as well stay indoors.

The two best England batsmen are at the crease. Actually they're not. Curran comes out for Root. Has anybody retired hurt/ill twice in a game? Broad goes quickly and England lose quickly. All over.

Crane and curran try hard and it is not their fault they are not good enough.

Time to try the next generation over stoneman and vince.
I think Crane might end up surprising a few people in the future, i see a few signs that make me think he could turn out to be a good bowler and spinners often mature a lot later, takes em a long time to learn their craft.
Id be sticking with him.

I'd be sticking with Crane as well. He has something about him.

Our batsmen are frustrating your desire for it to be all over. They've now got to a drinks break.

...... but hardly past it. All over.

Root should have at least gone out there and did his best today, was very surprised he didnt, he needs to harden up the **** up, watch Dean Jones innings in india for some inspiration, FFS if youre trying to save a test you get out there even if you have to crawl out, that goes double for the captain.

Any thoughts on Usman Khawaja’s magnificent innings?

Magnificent innings? the pitch was garbage and it was average to watch, it was also against a worn out and very poor English attack, he rarely does it when we really need it, im not surprised he scored well after we'd won the series, he lacks ticka, his record shows that very clearly..

Given the match and series were effectively lost, there was no reason for Root to risk his health in a show of bravado. He toughed it out yesterday being on the field for most of the day in some of the worst conditions ever seen in cricket.

Graeme Smith came out to bat late in a Sydney test with a broken hand, but they fell just short of saving that test and it wasn't risking his health, just the stability of a bone.

I'm surprised Root didn't even come out to speak. Is he dying? edit: turns out he was sleeping in the change rooms. That's almost cute. Get some rest Joe.

Discarding a 20yo after a solitarily test on that pitch is beyond stupid.

From what I hear it was quite an effort for Root to have been out there at all.

The rest seemed to have that on-the-plane-tomorrow kind of effort.

Scoring tons, kissing his insignia. At this rate he'll become prime minister next.

Cook was reading him bedtime stories, 3 minutes in Root went into a coma, hasnt woken up yet.

Great example for the team Root is, while the tail ends in the trenches, hes having a nap, seriously anybody ok with that has very low standards for a captain.
