So Joe Roots job in this team is just to tell the other batsman when they've got the highest ever England score, I remember him doing exactly the same for Hales at TB.

The record is his. At least the MCG has been kind to England’s batsmen with Roy replicating Cook’s record breaking efforts in the test.

Clearly a score of around 300 is nowhere near par these days.

Sadly may occur in the near future. Hope I'm gone by then.

There’s at least a strong case that some of our ODI players should be in the test side.

Anyone think that Roy would be worth a go batting at 5/6 in the test side? May even be worth trying him Asan opener if Stoneman doesn’t work out. I think Roy and Hales would improve the test team.

Needs to play more first class cricket and more importantly be less prone to get out after playing a promising innings which he has been prone to do in first class cricket. Great fun to watch mind.

**** yes, youve nothing to lose, these are the guys you should be giving a go in a failing test team, there could be some real gems, just gotta give them a decent go.

Cracking innings.

Australia seem a good 5 years behind the modern ODI game. We should look to adopt the England model of selecting limited overs specialist.
Trevor Bayliss is an utter genius. He's transformed the most turgid limited overs team for the best part of two decades into a run scoring machine.
