You can't lose points for turn. Only get poor pitch if uneven bounce and this hasn't been. Either that or hildreth and Abell should be going on the ashes tour because they can play on the unplayable (which saw the highest first innings score in doc 1).

If it means saving a test ground then sure.

A misty Autumnal morn at Chelmsford. I feel as excited today as I did back in the first week of April.

Well Lord's Tests have absolutely nothing to do with Middlesex. They are simply tenants at that ground. Why the ECB would have have some supposed sinister interest in keeping Middlesex in Division 1 I have no earthly idea.

That is one hell of a season for Essex. One hell of a season.

So one of their selectors doesn't spend the summer watching division 2 cricket. Look how the ashes squad has ended up with mick n.

Belting season for Essex. Brilliant.

Yorks won two very very tight games (beat us by 3 runs and then Warks by a couple of wickets). Miracle they stayed up as they have been a shambles.

Brilliant day lined up tomorrow. Can Somerset get the wickets needed? Can Hants beat Warks? Exciting.

Something badly wrong with Yorkshire's batting. They'd better sort it out for next year.

We've won FIVE times as many matches as the team in second place.

That's unreal.

For a while last night, I was contemplating visiting a different ground today (having been to Chelmsford on Mon and Canterbury on Tue). Given the match situation, I felt there was a fair chance of Essex v Yorks going into a fourth day.

I'm rather glad I decided otherwise. If my season has already been exceptional, then today was out of sight. In keeping with the theme of their campaign, Essex didn't just win the match, they bulldozed it. While the (again large) crowd was celebrating the news that Porter has signed a two year extension to his contract, I noted that this is the second match in succession that he's been out-figured by Little Chef. Once Ballance departed, it was just a matter of time and it was pleasing that Essex wrapped up the job in time for the presentation and a none-too-late journey home.

Although, as is traditional with cricket presentations, this one was delayed for an unseemly time, allegedly due to the tardy arrival of the ECB officials. But I saw the goblet raised, Harmer drenched in bubbly, and the team complete its lap of honour. That's it for me for this season..I can't cope with any more.

So Middlesex weren't deducted any points this season, without which they'd be safe?

But facts, eh?

Hearty congrats, So77. Enjoyed your comments and match day summaries throughout the season too.

Let the inquest begin at Headingley!

Thank you, D/L. A most unexpected season.

I suppose finishing anything less than 'the cock county' (FST) is unacceptable for Yorkie fans but at least they'll finish as third most successful county in terms of wins. It's being the third most beatable county that will alarm many. Odd that so many stalwart players should have had ordinary seasons in concert, although the rise of Coad should give heart, and Fisher seems to have something about him. Pressure on Gale next term.

Well I didn't see that coming a few weeks ago. 3 wins in our last four matches. Huzzah.

Pitch below average so simply a result pitch but fair. Right decision given highest first innings score in the division.

Liam Dawson's scoring rate has barely been above 10 in this innings, while the normally cavalier Vince has dipped below 30. Although I wouldn't be adverse to Hants making the drop, I greatly admire such gritty defiance.
