England.
GBG and AH have pointed out that both these assertions are incorrect. Not the first ODI win by England in SL, but the first since 1981-2. Likewise not the first series win on the sub-continent since 1987 because England beat Bangladesh 3-0 in 2003/4. I think it is safe to claim that it is England's first ODI series victory over Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Last edited by Michelle Fivefer : 11th October 2007 at 12:35. |

As well as being in the running for second highest run scorer in the year 2007 (nobody is going to catch Hayden with 1526 to date), Bell (1069) and Collingwood (1062) could overtake the English record for most runs in a calendar year. This is held by David Gower, who made 1086 runs in 1993, albeit from only 20 matches.
The thing is that this year England will have played 34 ODIs, more than ever before, so our players are up there in the records, both national and international. You can say, ah but look at their averages, blah blah - but they have still had to go out and score those runs or take those wickets. |

You do still have to score runs or take wickets but it certainly helps if you can spread them out over X amount of games

David Gower set that record of 1086 runs in 1993 and nobody has come near it since then, even though England have usually played more than 20 matches. Last edited by Michelle Fivefer : 11th October 2007 at 00:17. |

Zaheer Khan has taken another wicket v. Pakistan, bringing him level with Anderson and McGrath as leading ODI wicket takers of 2007, and on course to overtake them.

![]() (Anderson still has bowled the most maidens but Pollock will overtake him) Khan leading wicket taker 2007 - 40 wickets. I think the only bowlers that could pass that look like Bracken, Hogg and Vettori. Ganguly takes his 100th ODI wicket. Khan gets 200. Last edited by 1000yardstare : 15th November 2007 at 13:53. |

Panesar has three test matches to play before the year end. How many do South Africa have left?

In that case, with one innings of hapless New Zealanders still left, 10+ more wickets for Steyn I'd say
