Exactly my thoughts, Chin. His bat was pushing in the direction of mid-on. A straight flow of the bat wouldn't necessarily avoid being beaten by such a delivery but should provide more chance of getting bat onto it.

Who comes in for Stokes for Lord’s - after today’s collapse by India surely it’s another seamer ?

Woakes if fit. What was the result of Buttler's scan?

They just said no break, presumably bruising/soft tissue damage so he should be fine for the rest of this test and the next one too with a bit of padding.

I'd be tempted to pick a specialist batsman.

A lot of talk about how dry Lordís is. Think theyíll be tempted to replace Stokes with Ali. Otherwise itíll no doubt be Woakes.

England currently have 7 left-handers in the line-up. If England want an all right-handed top 7 to combat Ashwin these are the top test batting averages by Englishmen over the last 5 years:

1. Hameed
2. Root
3. Bairstow
4. Pietersen
5. Buttler
6. CurranT
7. Bess

(Plunkett is 11th, Woakes 12th, Hales 13th, Vince 14th)

Alternatively in County Cricket there's Ollie Pope, Ben Foakes, James Hildreth, James Vince (but see above), Joe Clarke, Johnny Bairstow (already in the side), Ravi Bopara and Tom Abel(!) all averaging over 40 in Div 1.

Given the love for all rounders then you should include the bowling averages for those averaging over 40 with bat. See how Abell looks.

Finally picking a long overlooked player when he's actually in some form? That can't be right.

Who is this guy? What a random pick he would be...or he is the chap averaging 86 in championship and possibly only one person scored more? (Burns)

Well, thatís certainly news to me. The jury is still out on the recall of Jennings, Buttler and Rashid. That said Iíd love to see Pope given an opportunity. However, they would need to make further changes to the batting order to accommodate him.

Pope bats at 5 or 6 for Surrey so I canít see him being asked to bat at 4 in the test team.

I can. Didnít Ballance batting that low for Yorkshire get him picked at 3 for England?
