All depends on his result. This morning's evidence by the prosecution certainly did him no favours but obviously this is only one side.

Perhaps, but I doubt he'd be in long enough to learn to play "5s and 3s", so it'd have to be "straight" doms (if he's lucky).

Seemed like the usual hyperbole from the prosecution - suggesting someone with a gold tooth looks daft isn't an offence.

The case for the prosecution seems to amount to rather more than that.

Ah yes the "winking in a police car" seems damning..

Sounds like the evidence from the two lads who aren't on trial and Hales will decide it.

No, there was something else too.

If they cross-examine Hales, the prosecution will most likely make the jury aware of, or remind them, that he was a team member on a night out with, presumably, a friend.

Even if they don't, one way or another, the jury will not be ignorant of it.

We shall see what we shall see.

Certainly seems to be a different picture being painted to what was previously perceived. Although I wonder how many people every night throw an obscenity at a bouncer who refuses entry to a club?

I can't count that high and I'm pretty good at counting :-)

Stokes should never play for England again.

Did the ECB run their own investigation into the incident or were they waiting for the criminal one to finish? It would seem that even if he is acquitted or doesn't receive a custodial sentence then his behaviour, if true, is a long way below what should be expected of an international player. Not saying that the prosecution's evidence is true, but it would warrant further consideration by the ECB.

Why?

No defence has yet been given, no verdict given and the veracity of today's version of events has yet to be established.

The prosecution of course are painting everything in the worst possible light.

The defence have yet to have their turn...

Already served a 5 test ban before he was even found guilty.

He was dropped but was it a suspension or an official punishment?

Clearly not considered sufficiently damning on its own, otherwise Stokes would not have been selected at all since its release.

Who had previously been armed and whose mate grabbed himself a weapon?

Context is everything. UK law is still predicated on intent.

Interesting legal stuff that Dobell has just linked to......

Worth remembering that he is charged with affray, not GBH or ABH. Therefore, it is not designed to protect the people involved in the violent incident. Instead, it aims to protect the other people present from potentially getting caught up in the incident.
