Been much better than Broad. Quite down on pace but that's to be expected at this stage.

West Indies going well, two quinquagenarians at the crease. They could easily get past England's first innings total.

Yes quite possibly, though I can quite easily see them collapsing once this partnership is broken (due more to the nature of the conditions than anything else - the next four are all useful with the bat, with Chase more than useful in his short career so far).

Either way, this has been a much improved performance from the first game from WI, lousy fielding apart.

They might will end up losing this game and the next but that has to be set against the heavy losses that Australia, India & SA have suffered in England in recent years (Pakistan the notable exception with a highly creditable draw last year).

Anyway, England in danger of losing another Test on the back of a victory, do have to wonder if the nightwatchman strategy didn't backfire as is often the danger in using up 19 balls Hope could have faced last night and by the time Hope had got in this morning the bowlers were finding their range.......

England wins followed by losses in last 36 Tests

vs WIN 14/15 - won 2nd Test, lost 3rd Test
vs NZL 2015 - won 1st Test, lost 2nd Test
vs AUS 2015 - won 1st Test, lost 2nd Test
vs AUS 2015 - won 4th Test, lost 5th Test
vs SAF 15/16 - won 3rd Test, lost 4th Test
vs PAK 2016 - won 3rd Test, lost 4th Test
vs BAN 16/17 - won 1st Test, lost 2nd Test
vs SAF 2017 - won 1st Test, lost 2nd Test

vs WIN 2017 - won 1st Test, TBC 2nd Test

Will be pretty bad to repeat that for a ninth time in such a relatively short space of time - April 2015 to August 2017 so almost exactly 28 months. Also quite amazing to have played that many Tests

It just goes to show that if you've got bowlers capable of getting Root and Cook for less than 100 between them, you're in with a chance against England. These two playing nicely.

Kragg is a quality batsman and deserves that 100. He and Chase are my Windies baes.

Should imagine the pitchmaps for England tell a story.

Top innings from KB though.

Questions again for the England captain and management - can you not control the bowlers ?

Yes indeed - he now has hundreds in WI, SA, UAE, England and a 94 in Australia.

This is only the third 200-run partnership by an overseas pair in England in the last 5 years. Other two from Rogers-Smith in 2015 and Clarke-Smith in 2013.

Has he? Didn't know that. Very impressive going. This is going to be a real test of the English resilience and if the lead is above 150, which I'm extremely confident it will be, I don't think we'll have the backbone to save the game.

A good old fashioned test match this.

Good to see WIs making a fight of it.
