24/4 now. WI got to the 70s before losing their 4th wicket.

Stokes can't have thought he would be batting 90 minutes after taking his sixfer.

Time for Stokes to be hero with ball and bat.

Powell has comfortably outscored the first four English wickets here. Wish I'd put money on that

Off-topic slightly but another moan about Cricinfo. If you look at the live scores and select the match you're interested in and click on "Scorecard", you are taken straight to the "live score" screen which just shows current batsmen and bowlers and live commentary. I'd venture that most of the time people want to be taken to the full match scorecard, but to see this you have to click AGAIN on "scorecard".

How can you have a follow-on target when the first innings total was under 200?

Follow-on safely avoided when Eng took 10th wicket?

I also hate that on a PC , the bar at the top has the live scorecards but when you move the mouse close it nastily splits in two with the bottom half being a link to a betting site.

Horrible.

Saved by the light.

So we lost 40-odd minutes in the day.

Day's play 169-14. Ouch.

England in some strife with the top order. There is a shock.

For the best to regroup overnight and aim to get in front by lunchtime tomorrow. There must be a good likelihood overhead conditions will be very different and the wicket more batting friendly on day 2 at Lord's.

As the summer comes to an end England are 4 down for not very many. Really similar to the start of the summer, or last summer, or the summer before. Really not much further forward in solving the top 5 problems Maybe Malan will consolidate a place, Westley looks guaranteed a Christmas at home, Stoneman - toss a coin.

It is worrying, not only for this match, but we really have no idea of what they team should be for the Ashes. We surely will get annihilated again.

Ben Stokes providing something that you wont see in a T20 match: a high quality spell of swing bowling over a decent period of time. For me that was just as spectacular as a bundle of sixes being hit. 2.4 billion dollars or 1.3 million quid wont buy that sort of play.

Anyone who doesnt enjoy that display doesnt understand cricket.

Australia are nearly as inconsistent so I'm not sure there's no chance. I think here we'd have had a stronger batting line up if they'd dropped Westley, kept Woakes and shifted everyone up one place. You've definitely got to worry about Stoneman and Malan against the Aussie seamers and I'd put money on both being dropped by the third or fourth test. There aren't a lot of convincing alternatives really. Hameed needs a few runs to get back in the squad by default. I quite like Livinstone but he's not yet been tried against extreme pace. Ballance maybe, but I don't see him doing well. Pull someone out from division 2, maybe Sam Northeast ? Would Collingwood like one last crack down under?

England have got a decent enough chance as long as that strong core of Cook, Root, Stokes, Bairstow, Ali, Anderson & Broad can stay fit.

Australia are not invincible by any means. They may beat up the Asian sides & WI at home, but its a different matter against SA & Aus. Aus got beaten by SA in late 2016, who themselves hd got beaten by England at home in early 2016 and of course away last month.

Tests are generally won by 5 players having good games. England's problem is they only have maybe 8 players capable of decent games.

Was looking for the Aus scorecard, Click scorecard and you expect to see a full scorecard not the last innings only, with 1st inns 2nd inns 3rd inns as headings. Clicking on Ban 1st innings you see that and Aus 2nd inns. Unbelievable.
