That's not actually that bad a return for Rashid in the limited opportunity he's had. I think he, Buttler and Curran will get central contracts and Woakes has timed his one good game very well.

I hope Curran gets one. England need that left-arm variation. I don't know about Rashid.

A lot depends on his county contractual situation, I would presume, based on Smith’s comments (Rashid, that is). I suspect they might hold off for now.

Not sure, it would sort out Yorkshire's dilemma about keeping him if they don't have to pay for him at all, whilst everyone saves face.

Looking at those stats you'd fancy Rashid over Moeen but I doubt any new batsmen will get one, other than Buttler.

I most definitely don't fancy Rashid. Less wickets all series than Moeen got in 1 game is hardly the kind of form to earn a central contract for a player who clearly is not fully trusted in tests by the coach or captain, while there's still uncertainty over his red-ball future domestically too.

Rashid got more wickets in his 4 matches than Moeen in his previous 6 though, plus is probably our second-best ODI bowler after Plunkett. I think the amount of overs Rashid has bowled in the Test series says more about Root than it does Rashid. I suspect both Mo and Rashid will get contracts anyway as there seems a bit of a paucity of players to hand them out to.

I see an English backpacker got off free after knocking out an Aussie rugby player in a Sydney kebab shop. The accused was also from the North East.

The Aussie rugby player should retire as a result of the humiliation. Surely his credibility is done.

Given Root will still be captain, though, it's unlikely to change much which will presumably be considered. Ali's dire form before then saw him dropped so it's not a base comparison that shows Rashid as having done enough to earn a test deal.

The ODI form is a different thing (I'd even say he's our best bowler in that form, myself) since they separated out the contracts, too.
