Bayliss and Cook had the perfect opportunity in the last Test in SA. Afterwards Cook said they needed more variation in the bowling. Who knows how Footitt would have bowled.

I think the same will apply if Ball is chosen as the 3rd seamer as he is very much like Broad. Finn is different and also Wood when playing the 3rd seamer role. That's if you want all 5 bowlers to have something different.

An article about the SL squad, their quick bowlers in particular.

I think England might find themselves up against it ...

Ball should get a go in the ODI series.

With Wood and Footitt injured, Woakes shown up by his performances in SA, Jordan at the IPL and Tom Curran and Craig Overton starting the season slowly I think there is every chance Ball will be in the test squad. I don't think he'll play though unless there are further injuries.

Sri Lnkans 148-5, an impressive first class debut for Aaron Beard. Chris Stocks has called him 'sensational'.

Bopara gets Mathews. 2.1-0-3-1

Got him out earlier but it was a no ball and also had a dropped catch.

It's certainly a sensational name he's got.

Hard to argue with it being called a sensational debut.

Schoolboy plays his first first class game, his team lose the toss and told to bowl on a flat track. He takes the new ball and takes 4 international top 6 batsmen in his first ten overs.

Yes - he looked very handy when he was over here. A lot of Sri Lanka's other seamers have that ability to bowl some superb wicket balls, but dross in between. I'll be interested to see whether Chameera can cause consistent difficulty to the batsmen, as that's where Sri Lanka's other seamers fail.

Expect to see the occasional wicket against the run of play as an unplayable delivery comes out in the middle of an over of long hops from their other seamers though.

I was wondering when all of that was happening, thanks 1000ys. I wonder if Danny Reuben can do a better job of stopping the ECB leaks?

Doubt it.

Andy Flower was interviewed/had smoke blown up his arse by Newman only the other day.

Expect unattributed stories to follow.

Anyone wondered about the time? Usually the earliest is 9.30 with usual 11.00/12.00am or 2.00/3.00pm.

7.00am is a weird time.

Probably to prevent Andy Flower from leaking it.
