Not sure I agree with bowling out any bowler after 30 overs - removes an option for later.

Current partnership 45 runs, 6.1 overs, RR: 7.29 (Mathews 7, Prasanna 38)

And only 4 bowlers to play with.

I agree. Odd.

This match turned on one delivery. The lucky six over the keeper then BOSH.

Which one was batting when the slip was nowhere to be seen?

I blame Morgan for not mixing up the bowling during this mini assault - switch it around FFS.

Finally a change of bowling = wicket..

Perhaps Morgan saw Moeen's pies at Worcester o Saturday. The spin on show in my club match on Sunday was better.

Still 7 overs to find from Mo, Plunkett - or Root.

You have better bowlers than the highest ranked England bowler and in the top ten on the planet. Decent.

there is a reason that they didn't take on Rashid but targeted Ali - there is zero mystery in his bowling.

Given the "mystery" in Rashid's armoury how can you explain his exceptionally poor record in test cricket, ODI cricket and T20I cricket? I think we all agree (even Sir Virgs) that Moeen isn't particularly good but he has a better record than Rashid in all 3 formats and he is a better batsmen.

11 overs still remaining. If Mathews can bat through Sri Lanka could end up with a score in excess of 300.

His first, second or third tests will do for now, I guess. Did he impress you sufficiently on that tour for you to want England to select him again?

England kept a lid on the SL innings overall, assuming the wicket is as good for batting as we expect, which will only really be confirmed once we begin batting.

The benefit of taking regular wickets throughout was illustrated today.

I expect us to chase these fairly comfortably, FWIW.

Astonishingly stupid from Hales & potentially Root.
