Decent company I guess, although he has slowed down a lot since his Bradman-esque start. Great to see him back in the runs.

He needs 157 runs for his 1000 runs for 2008. If he can carry on like this I don't think there will be any more talk about him being dropped.

I get the feeling that Pietersen won't make his usual 1000 Test runs in the year. He's on 870 at the moment

2000 -
2001 -
2002 - Vaughan 1484
2003 - Trescothick 1003
2004 - Trescothick 1004
2005 - Trescothick 1323
2006 - Pietersen 1343, Collingwood 1121, Strauss 1031, Cook 1013
2007 - Pietersen 1007

Vaughan will have to look for another way into the team then.

I'm sure Gilo will get him back into the side for the West Indies. I would have thought in the next six weeks Vaughan would have gone to SA or Aus to have some match practice. How on earth can he expect to be picked when he hasn't got any runs? Maybe that is why Shah is not playing. He might do well and then there wouldn't be a place for Vaughan. As it is one of the non performers could be dropped for him when he is ready to come back.

This morning Pietersen set a new record for himself. It's the first time in his test career that he has been dismissed for a single figure score in both innings.

Andrew Flintoff is also now the record holder of the lowest number of 5-fers (2) of any player to pass 200 wickets and he is also only the second man in history to pass 200 wickets without ever taking more than 5 in a single innings (Brett Lee was the first)

Andrew Flintoff has also become only the third Englishman to pass 200 test wickets without taking 10 in a match (Bob Willis and Daren Gough preceded him)

Straussy has become the first Engishman to hit two centuries in a match in India. F*ck me, I did not see that one coming. Well played sir and I'm happy to dedicate my 3000th post on this board to you,.

Congratulations on your 3000 posts.

One other Englishman has scored centuries in both innings v. India, namely Graham Gooch, but he did it in England.

Apparently only the tenth Englishmen to hit centuries in both innings of a test.

I can think of Gooch, Stewart, Vaughan, Trescothick and now Strauss, but who are the other 5?

Strauss is the 10th English batsman to score a century in each innings but it is the 11th time an Englishman has done it. Anyone care to name the man so good he did it twice?

CAG ("Jack") Russell, Wally Hammond, Eddie Paynter, Denis Compton, Graham Gooch, Alec Stewart, Michael Vaughan, Tresco, Straussy and the man who did it twice...

This was the first overseas one since Alec Stewart in the West Indies in 1994.

Some nice records this test for the English cricket fan. I was really worried that this thread would be a catalogue of world beating disasters this tour but God bless Andrew Strauss.

One more thing on the 1st test: Tendulkar passed 1000 runs for the year 2008 while making his century.
