Fourth innings of a Test match at Lords. England in a comfortable position at 11 on a Sunday morning. It is a national law that England do their best to throw the game away!!! It's a friggin tradition. The pitch is pretty "spicy". 330 lead should be enough but I doubt we will get that. Few sides chase 300 on the 4th/5th and I don't see Gordon Greenidge here batting for SA. Lead atm. Woody and JB giving them some long handle. SNAFU.

Odd pitch at Lords. It could yet flatten out a tad.

You could argue that they are giving the spectators more value for money in terms of all-action cricket, wickets and boundaries, instead of them finding more excitement in speculating when England will declare than the actual cricket.

Time for Jimmy to practice his six-hitting skills.

Well it worked out pretty well, with Wood playing some useful strokes, but JB didn't farm the strike at all, giving the lion's share to the tailender.

One slip for Anderson is funny. This over will be either 0 or 20.

Not now he's looking to get to 50.

Well if that stumping had occurred a few balls earlier...

Lovely to see Test Cricket back.

Today looked like it was going to be pretty dull fare (phony war until declaration) but a combination of excellent bowling and dodgy batting has made it more interesting, kept me glued to the screen, and consequently prevented any productive activity from taking place.

Feels like QdK is pivotal here - if he can get a quick 50+ batting up the order (coming in as late as he did last time was ridiculous) then it might be game on. Which, of course, means that someone else will score the bulk of the runs.

How will Dawson do with pressure on + expectation to take wickets?

Will our new captain bowl himself?

Moeen has played very well (albeit daft shot in 2nd Inns) + if the match is won he and Root can take a lot of credit.

Bit of a strangle from Jimmy, brilliant catch from YJB, and we're away.

Elgar caught and bowled Moeen. They could fall like a pack of cards if Amla gets out.

Without wanting to spark up the debate about England's most contentious all-rounder; at this point, you'd rather him bowl than Dawson, correct?

[tbh this jinx probably means Dawson will come on and get a hat-trick now]

Duminy pulls Wood to Ali at midwicket. England's session all the way.

I'd just rotate the spinners from one end with Ali taking a few more overs. Think there's something in it for the quicks as well so with 4 of them quite happy for them to take the other end.

If Amla or QDK win this from here they deserve a MOM award more than Joe Root. All over tonight?

Did he nick it?

ETA: No. Amla falls to Dawson. Saffers fading fast.
