Second XI cricket 2019

Let's have a fresh thread for this, as for one thing it looks better for the forum.

We have seen that Lancashire and Yorkshire's fixtures have been published, so here are the links:

https://cricket.lancashirecricket.co...I&competition=

https://yorkshireccc.com/match-centr...es/team/2nd-xi

NOTE: Lancashire's fixtures now correct!

I haven't seen any other counties' fixtures, which is odd as those two came out last week. Please post any fixtures information on here, as it is very helpful, with the info often being so difficult to find until the 2nd XI Annual and Playfair come out.

We can also use this thread later to discuss matches and performances over the course of the season.

Now there's a bold staement.

I wonder whether they will make further unannounced changes given that currently their season ends with a one day friendly on 27th August. Strange time of year for a one day game (although it's prior to end of the 1st team's T20 season). By comparison Yorkshire 2s have a 3 day friendly starting on 27th August and more two 3 day friendlies arranged in September.

Meanwhile Lancashire's first team have 4 games arranged after the second team's season ends (not to mention a possible T20 finals day in September)

Good to see 2nd XI cricket at TW (though not useful for me), but this looks like the first season I can remember there are no 2nd XI games at headquarters (the St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury).

This seems to be increasingly the trend - Yorkshire aren't at Headingley this year for the first time I can remember, while as far as I know Surrey have now not used The Oval for 2nd XI cricket - which they used to regularly - for a few years now.

The flavour of the home fixtures varies notably for different clubs. Yorkshire and Lancashire - the two clubs which undoubtedly attract the biggest spectator interest for 2nd XI games, serve up a wide selection. Indeed, Yorkshire, with a list bookended by games at Scarborough, visits to the likes of Harrogate and York, and a "summer festival" game at Stamford Bridge, could provide a season's satisfaction for the spectator through their home 2nd XI games alone. Several grounds of interest, many making an effort with scorecards, bars and so on, and towns well worth an overnight stay.

Surrey, on the other hand, have now centered virtually their entire 2nd XI operation around the LSE New Malden facility, and while obviously games there are open to watch, the venue and the fixture list is clearly one of pure functionality for the club and players, with no consideration of spectator interest. Looking back at their list from 2012, they played at Reigate Priory, Wimbledon, Guildford, Purley, Cheam and the Oval, and I've seen them play at Whitgift School as well.

I'm not expecting this trend to be continued by Hampshire. They havent got a full set of fixtures up yet but from what i've seen on other county sites games will be at the Egregious Bowl. (Either the main ground or the Nursery Ground)

I'm hoping they take a trip to May's Bounty in Basingstoke but i wont be surprised if they dont.

Middlesex's, presented in such a unnecessarily complex month-by-month drop-down menu format that I haven't worked out how to actually view all of them:

https://www.middlesexccc.com/fixture...esex-second-xi

Still, the club have posted some more funky photos on Instagram and some video clips from last season on Twitter, so they've got their priorities right.

I notice that Middlesex will be off to the Isle of Wight to play Hants 2's. Cricket supporters on the IOW will be having something of a bounty this summer as Hampshire's Academy team are playing 3 or 4 Southern Premier League matches at Newclose. What with the County Championship match against Notts it'll be a busy time at Newclose.

On the flip side i dont think my hoped for Hants 2's match at Basingstoke is going to happen.

I've ordered the ACS Second XI Annual - well worth buying, it's a great reference book for the season, useful not only for 2s matches but for player info when they debut in the 1sts.

It's also interesting to read about the wide range of players who play for the 2s over a season.

http://acscricket.com/?page_id=45&ca...product_id=226

They are very prompt in getting this out but are saying "publication may be a little delayed" - doubtless because this year, despite some counties publishing their fixtures a month ago, 7 others haven't yet managed it.

Excellent book series, I have a full set. I see there is a new editor this year although I imagine the content will remain the same.

Normally also available at Lord's, Chelmsford, Hove etc. etc.

I tweeted Hampshire last week to ask if theirs were likely to be up soon but have not received a reply. Surprise, surprise.

As 13 clubs have posted theirs, one could almost piece together the remaining 5 club's fixtures, except the games where they are playing each other. And Fred has posted the competition fixtures above. So I can't really see why all the clubs' full fixtures are not published.
