Another one-dayer loss. Why isn't Gillespie playing?

Looks like Dizzy won't be coming back this season as he has been called into the Australia A squad.

that must rather sum up the lack of quality fast bowlers in Australia

Talk about your pots and kettles - hows this for a bowling lineup to strike terror into the heart?

And the Indian one's not too flash either!

I'd say that lineup was better than the lineup of Plunkett, Mahmood, Flintoff, Collingwood, Panesar, Dalrymple that beat Australia in the CB serie finals.

That's cause we didn't play Gillespie, who is better than all of those...

Hilfenhaus, Bracken, Clark, Lee and Tait?

Australia could do with a few more young guns making their way in the state game but they're hardly short of options at the moment.

Until a few months back I was very much of the opinion that Australia were shooting themselves in the foot by ignoring Dizzy but now I'm not so sure. Getting 59 wickets at 34.11 over two seasons for Yorkshire isn't a great return and he's not looked quite right either.

You forgot Mitchell Johnson. There are a few youngsters around, but they're pretty raw at the moment.

Well I guess he is in partly for his experience, and he's replacing Harwood who is something of a one-day specialist, and Dizzy's list A performance for Yorkshire this year has been pretty good.

I might be wrong but I think Mitchell's a little behind the 5 I mentioned at the moment. There's no doubt he has potential but he doesn't quite seem to have the solidity of Hilfenhaus or the explosiveness of Tait, who'll probably seem 'a bit raw' for most of his career anyway.

Yeess.. but it's only been 'pretty good'. A few years ago I'd have expected him be among the best bowlers in county cricket but now he seems to deal more in econimical spells with one or two wickets at the end. A record of 18 wickets at 33 over two years with a strike rate of 48?

There's no harm in giving him another go I suppose, but I don't think he's going to be quite good enough to get in ahead of the likes of Hilfenhaus.

Yes - Johnson is probably only 6th on the list, but when you talk about the the current crop of Australian bowlers you definitely should include him.

Well obviously he's not the bowler he was two years ago but he is still useful.
I've just had a bit of a look at some interesting stats. England have used over a dozen seam bowlers in ODI's in the last year and a bit. Only three of those have significantly better list A records than Gillespie this season, and most are a lot worse.

I don't think the selectors expect him to get in ahead of any of the bowlers we've mentioned on bowling performance alone. But if we had a rash of injuries, particularly to the more experienced squad members like Lee, Bracken and Clark, I'm sure the selectors would like to see Gillespie helping out the youngsters.

Which says more about the England team than Gillespie!

Don't really need to say much in reply, considering which team you support

Apparently Gough, Shahzad and Pyrah are all unfit. Whatever team we do put out on Wednesday, it's unlikely to be one that can beat Sussex
