Wasim Khan's doing a good job: hope this initiative is rewarded with a bumper crowd.

Pleasing first 3 games for the team with all the new batters registering an early century. With more luck weatherwise it's even possible a second win might have been registered.
Slight concern only is the possible lack of a fourth wicket taking bowler. Am sure the left arm of Rob Taylor might get a chance at some stage , personally think it would also be nice to see James Sykes get a chance in the side.

I see Leicestershire have made about 7 or 8 changes in their match against Sri Lanka. Seasonal first class debuts for Hill, Eckersley, Burgess, Wells, Taylor, Sykes, Sayer and Sheikh. It's no more serious than the games against the students. Why is it first class? Such matches are given to non-test counties presumably to help their finances .... so why play your squad players?

I suppose the answer is: because they can. Leicestershire would see no reason to flog players who will be busy all season and it gives others a run out. It's not going to affect the attendance.

I'd much rather it be first-class than the farce two years ago when Leicestershire played India and it was 14 players v 18. To me, then it is no longer a game of cricket - just a training exercise. I would have no interest to attend such a 'game' where none of the performances count in the records and players from a group of 18 just go on and off the field at will.

So it being first-class ensures the game is structured properly as an 11-a-side match.

And what's more, as the popular saying goes: "First-class cricket focuses the mind".

I felt a bit sorry for Essex's Porter who's been in good form all season and a hatful of wickets against the tourists might have made selectors take a little more more. I noticed Browne still played.*

*Retract if Porter was crocked.

Andrew Macdonald saying the squad are entering a very busy phase playing cricket in its various forms and he felt it important to rest most of the front line players

Evidently something amiss there. Not played at any level for Leicestershire since May.

I presume that's the two 2nd XI t20 games he played on May 20? That would make sense, as that's the last time he played. Can't see a way back if he's been absent for 6 weeks.

Apparently this was an error.

The official Leicestershire line is that he's been injured.

Lancs accidentally put another county's player in their squad list? That doesn't sound likely.

Not knowing Wayne White personally maybe I am not qualified to comment but 'trouble' does seem to follow him around ? Raine seems out of form with the ball, Taylor gets very little bowling making Dexter our ' all rounder' currently. Sad to see Sayer,Naik and Sykes getting no first eleven cricket. Oh for the days of Snape, 3 spinners and T20 success

"Leicestershire County Cricket Club would like to announce that Wayne White has left the club by mutual consent.
Wayne has been a terrific player for the club in two separate spells over the last 12 months and from 2009-2012 during which time he proved himself to be a very talented player indeed and a big favourite of the club's supporters.
We would like to thank him for his whole-hearted and significant contribution to the club on and off the field.
Wayne is leaving to pursue other opportunities and we are sad to see him leave. We wish him all the best for the future".

Ridiculous pay off and quite amazing LCCC could even contemplate such an amount assuming it's correct. Effectively could cost the club a tilt at the Divison 2 title having a. Lost a potentially key all rounder and b. Spent the money getting rid of him that might have funded a.n.other

Difficult. Must assume that the relationship had become so bad that divorce was the only option.

But he was on a 3 year contract. If they were to say "Here's 20k, goodbye", White could either say i) "I am not going anywhere, I am employed by you, or ii) Not good enough, off to tribunal we go, you are tearing up my contract, I do not want to leave. YOU now have to explain to them why I must leave, and you have not a leg to stand on."

In those situations they either have to keep paying him, or risk perhaps being told to pay up his contract in full.

So really this is the kind of situation that leaves the club in a no-win situation. They needed to resolve it.

Also, if White accepts that this is the end of the road for him as a pro, this also gives him the upper hand. He no longer needs to worry about whether he will be branded as "difficult" if he is finished.
