If we haven't won by lunch tomorrow I'm going down there to purposefully throw my membership booklet at Newell in disgust.

So he's still got a strike rate below 100??? Seriously England, take him back!

5 batting points - just the win still needed.

Good stuff lads and one less wicket to take as well. We are in the 4 day equivalent of having having just taken Sussex's 8th wicket on Sunday.........

Seems like we've produced some great tonksmanship today at just the right time. If ever there was a match to produce 400+ runs in a day then this was definitely it (well, maybe Hampshire next time, but they're of equal importance currently). Great to see (hear) Samit back in his best form, and great to see a hundred from Mark Wagh, even if he is still getting out in the 40s . I'd bat for a fair while longer tomorrow just to make it 'really' hard for Surrey.

Oh, and Ashwell Prince is out bowled by Hussain.

Nightwatchman Patto tonks a six off the last ball of the day after hitting a four in the same over as well. Surrey are going down in style.

Prince isn't a batsman for county cricket, I don't think. His technique isn't outstanding in any respect and his fastidious collation of runs makes it take an eternity for him to get in. He'll score big when he does get in, but I don't think he's suited for a competition where conditions often favour the bowlers. Like I've said before, we need a stylish aggressor. The worst thing about it is that we could be looking at losing Samit AS WELL for much of next season with the way he's progressing.

Cricinfo getting just *a bit* carried away here:

Nottinghamshire remain firmly on course for the title after an effortless day of dominance against an inept and relegated Surrey at The Oval. Read Martin Williamson's bulletin.

The sun was shining so I decided to skip work early and catch the last few rays of summer down at The Oval, especially as it may be six months before we see sunshine again. Glad to see they've finally knocked down that pile of crap building that used to hover over the main gate. And entrance was free after 3.30pm which was good too.

What to report? Well I don't know what Surrey paid to lure the notoriously unreliable Shoaib Ahktar to south London but no doubt the sum was considerable. I just hope that they think the mixture of beamers and long hops that he served up was worth it. He's certainly still quick: I've not seen a run as long as that since the days of Bob Willis but it's not difficult to notice why his action has given so much cause for concern. Rather like Muttiah Muralitharan, there seems to be a lot of variation in his delivery, depending on what he is trying to do. There was one comical moment where having delivered yet another fast food pie, he yelled out "F**KKKKKKK" which I can only assume is urdu for "oh bother". The crowd certainly laughed as the anguished cry rang out around the ground.

Patel is clearly a cricketer for whom the idea of providing entertainment is not entirely alien. He was happy to deposit the "help yourself" offspin of Hussain into the rear seating areas with several enormous sixes on what is a large ground by English standards. Surrey, unsurprisingly, were rather going through the motions but young Mr Ramprakash still looks very lithe in the field. How many players approaching forty could still field comfortably in key run saving positions? At least he'll see out his career adding to his excellent first class reputation by feasting on second division bowling.

Oh, and I saw Jonathan Batty, who was injured only the other day, getting into a taxi. What I fail to understand is why someone, Surrey cricketer or otherwise, who isn't actually playing in the game, would want to walk around in a pair of faeces brown tracksuit bottoms? Do cricketers have no sense of style these days?

Mark's bouncing about a bit in his interview!!

Anyway hopefully he's lifted a mental barrier on converting the 40s and 50s now. If he starts converting at say 40% we may have another England call up on our hands!!

Wagh was less aggressive than Patel but reached his hundred with, I think, one 6 and about fourteen 4s so he was hardly pedestrian. One or two nice drives and flicks off of Ahktar who looked increasingly frustrated. But it's difficult to judge too much on that pitch. Both looked completely comfortable against everything and played Shoaib's pace easily. But if you can't score runs at the Oval against a plummeting Surrey where are you going to score them?

Nice to see a bit of cricket in sunshine at the end of the season. I doubt I'll see any more this year. Hoped to watch Read 'keep or bat but no such luck.

seems you chaps have taken a massive step towards the title. Our pop gun attack has been revealed to be just that. Will take a miracle for us to win now! Who knows maybe Blackwell can spin em out! At least Vaughan failed. Still the 14 sounded pretty so I am sure that books him a tour spot!

There are still 6 days of the season yet to play, numerous teams in with a shout, pressure and weather to contend with. This race is going down to the last day!
