Scotland have posted a very good 198 against UAE. I hadn't noted before but ironically UAE's coach is Dougie Brown. It looks a tough ask for UAE to get close.

Another big win for pool A. I feel a bit sorry for Kenya and Singapore, who didn't progress in Pool A but might have fancied their chances a bit more in B.

Pool B had Zimbabwe in it, before they were suspended and replaced by Nigeria. That would have made the equation somewhat different, although of course Singapore managed to beat Zimbabwe just a few weeks before the tournament.

Anyway, good to see that there are 10-12 competitive teams below the top, and hopefully we’ll see some more tournaments in the future where these teams play in.

Although it was disappointing to see that there was hardly anyone in the stadium for the UAE-Netherlands match.

I don't think taking half a day off work and traveling miles into the desert for a boozy evening watching the cricket is a thing in the UAE.

indeed it's good how when the ball gets hit in to the stands it's often lost because there's nobody there and they don't know which row of seats it's landed in..

I think when England last played there a lot of Pakistani ex-pats turned up after prayers on the Friday but otherwise the stadia were empty bar whoever from the BA had made the trip. As well as the "culture of work" over there, the stadia are miles out of the cities with little transport infrastructure to get there.

Plus it's insanely hot.

That’s not quite what the article states- there will still be a qualifying process, but could become regional.

True. But from what i've read over the last week or so the qualifier has proved a big success. The foibles with regional qualifiers are outlined by Peter which, to me, would be a retrograde step. Why change something that works so well?

They should model the T20 World Cup after the Rugby World Cup, with 4 groups of 5.

Indeed. Instead next year's tournament features 4 less teams than the Rugby WC whilst there is another qualifier round for the 6 qualifiers (with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) before the rather ridiculously named 'Super 12's.'

The tournament is now almost a month long with an astonishing two days sandwiched in between the second semi-final and the final. Who knew that twenty over cricket was so taxing.

If 6 teams qualify it's going to be an unwieldy competition. So now all these remaining matches are pointless.

The 6 qualifiers will join the 10 teams that have already qualified. Which for most sports would be a simple 4 groups of 4 scenario.

For the Dutch team, winning the tournament probably means that get another article in the national sports news. They got one after the group stage and one after they qualified. That's important publicity for a small sport.
