Shaw found out again, just doesn't look good enough. But who else can they play with Kohli presumably replaced by Gill?

How does Shaw average 56 at test level? He has about as much awareness of his off stump as Johnny Bairstow after a long night out. Sehwag was 'loose' but his eye was good enough to compensate for it, this is Finch esque.

I fear they might decide to push Pujara to open while bringing in Jadeja/Pant lower in the order until Rohit Sharma joins the squad.

Good bowling by India, but I wish we had caught better. In the end, we let the Aussie tail score more runs than they should have. We are still in the driver's seat, just about, but Prithvi Shaw needs to be out. He can't bat and he can't catch, not yet at least.

His technique is fine in subcontinent, where he's amassed whatever runs he has. Anywhere else, he will get found out unless he works on his technique. The bigger thing, for me, is the lack of application being shown by him which is worrying.

Matthew Wade has been struck on the body 15 times in Tests since the start of 2019. The only batsman to be hit more often in that time is Rory Burns.

@AWSStats

Openers 42/5 so far in this match. They were 76/7 and 138/8 in the two Australia A touring games.

I don't quite get it. It's not the bounce that's troubling him here, or the extra pace. It's the movement back in, which you get in India with the new ball.

I also liked the stat that the Aussies have now lost a wicket on 111 44 times, compared to just 29 on 87!!

Are any of the 4 openers actually test quality openers ?

Wade's not even an opener. He moved 2nd on a daft stat for the most FC innings to then make your first start as opener in a Test. He was a couple of FC games behind Stokes (and 2 ahead of your good buddy Moeen).

I wonder if it is the opposite here. Out more times on 87 than 111.

Intriguing game we have here, with Australia desperate for a breakthrough first thing, and India needing only to consolidate, however slowly, to press their advantage of the handy first innings lead.

If India had held their catches this test would have been all but over by now.

Agarwal has a pretty sound, although limited, body of work, so i'll pay him. The arrogance of Langer & selectors to back in such an inept opening pair against a top quality attack with a pink ball is kind of mind boggling, and probably will cost Australia the test.

Feels good to be on the other side of an astronomical collapse for a change. Stiil, not overly confident Aus won't do the same when they have to face this.

Disastrous session for India, all out for 36, their lowest ever test score with no batsmen making double figures.

A lead of just 89 which Australia should chase down comfortably, to make it worse India might be down a bowler with Shami retiring hurt with an arm injury.

And Shami retires hurt for good measure to finish the innings. That was just about the most disastrous session of Cricket I've seen for a team on these shores. I don't expect our openers to do much but they need to be proactive. No point hanging around until you get out on this wicket.

Fantastic. I love seeing India collapse. Hazelwood is such a brilliant bowler.

Yeah, he's a bit underrated I reckon. Other than Saha's poor shot, India's batsman couldn't do much about that. He just kept hitting that McGrath channel over & over.
