I rated Rogers, should have played 60-70 tests. Watson made a decent fist of it batting out of position, a damn sight better than either these two could produce, so I think it unfair to undermine them. I just really don't understand the philosophy of these selections. Opening is specialist batting position, and on merit there's gotta be maybe 10 or players better equipped or in better form that these two, even as stop gap options.

Who in Australia is their best opener right now then? I guess Will Pucovski is an option if he is back from injury but I am not aware of many others knocking down the doors.

As of the first day, thrilling Cricket. India did really well to move away from the previous match. Loved Rahane's captaincy, especially in the first session. Bold move to get the spinners in so early. Hopefully they can back it up with the bat. The next two days should be the best to bat. We definitely discuss Starc and Cummins a lot, but Lyon will be absolutely key. Lyon vs Pujara, looking forward to it.

It has been a patchy start to the innings on the second day morning by India. Both Cummins and Hazlewood have bowled beautifully but also slightly short of length. Gill has been lucky with a dropped catch. Just shows the difference the previous Indian innings and this one.

Cummins getting Australia back into the contest with a couple of wickets this morning.

India need a captain's knock from Rahane with support from the rest of their remaining batsmen.

Things could go to pot quickly here for India. Fair enough if Rahane drops anchor because he has the technique for these pitches, but i'd like to see the middle/lower order counter attack and just push the score forward. No point hanging around until one's got your name on it.

Looking forward to seeing Pant bat, he will look to take the bowling on, he could get out cheaply but if he gets going it could turn the match India's way.

I too am worried about the same. It is fine dropping anchor but I just wish they would rotate strike and make it a bit difficult for the bowlers. Easier said than done, though.

Again India comfortably out playing Aus across the first two days. They just need to turn the screw rather than implode tomorrow.

Rahane and Pant putting together a good partnership here and swinging the match in India's favour.

Hard to believe Pant didn't play ahead of Saha in the first test, he may not be the greatest keeper but his batting more than makes up for it.

Pant gone with a lazy flash outside off.

India need Jadeja and Ashwin to support Rahane now who is putting together a solid captain's knock.

Great hundred from Rahane, he has stepped up to the plate as captain.

Jadeja proving his worth as an all rounder too, has provided solid support, without him the Indian lower order could have folded again.

Slightly bizarre ending to the day, with a dramatic change in weather then Rahane getting clanged on the head but also getting dropped off the same ball by Travis Head

Dog of a day for the Aussies after that morning session, but India have barely put a foot wrong really and deserve their advantage. Class ton by Rahane. I don't think they can stuff this one up. About half of Australias top 6 will be batting for their careers tomorrow. Weather has been utterly bizarre in these areas this month.

I was down there today. Was having a nice day til it all got a bit apocalyptic. Friend of mine just got back from Tasmania this evening, apparently the plane had 3 goes at landing due to the conditions up at Tullamarine

India would look to completely bat Australia out of this match. Day 3 should be the best day to bat. If India bat for two sessions more, they should have a lead of close to 200. Australia looked flat by the end of the day, and if they don't strike early tomorrow, they could get flat again tomorrow. Put Australia in to bat on the brink of Day 4- that would be the best scenario for India. Jadeja looks determined for a big one too.

Quick question - If Wade, Burns and Head all fail again, who would make space for Warner?

I think, saving a match winning innings, Burns is gone regardless. Head on the brink too, regardless of result. Wade is the safest, despite averaging less than both, because Langer for some reason thinks he is the epitome of ANZAC spirit or some other crass comparison to military. I think there will be at least two changes for the next test. This batting line up is not fit for Test cricket and Warner alone can't solve those issues.

Australia incredibly generous with their catching. 9 dropped catches is saying something.
